Travel Note
Many of you in the PNW already know how to get to Whidbey, but for those who don’t, this page is for you! Getting to the island will require a flight, a drive, and a ferry ride, but the trip will be a relatively simple, and very scenic, part of our wedding weekend. Here’s our recommendations for getting there as quickly and easily as possible: - Fly in and out of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and rent a car for the duration of your stay. Ubers aren’t very reliable on Whidbey, and a car is the best way to get around. We like renting from Turo for easy pick-up and drop-off (standard rental car services are a shuttle trip away from the airport). - Drive to the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal, about an hour trip from the airport. Ferries run every half hour but can have long lines during the summer. If arriving Thursday, you shouldn’t have much of a wait, but Fridays can get very busy after 12pm. The ferry costs $10.15 for a car and driver, and $5.80 for each additional person. - Once on the ferry, we recommend heading up to the observation decks for great views of Puget Sound and its many islands. You’ll have about 20 minutes to take in the sights and work on your tan. - After disembarking, you shouldn’t have to drive more than 25 minutes to your hotel, Airbnb, our wedding venue, grocery stores, or any of the towns on the island. See our “Things To Do” page for a list of some of our favorite spots on Whidbey.
