Due to COVID-19 and concern over the safety of our loved ones, we have decided to move our wedding party date but still get officially hitched on our original date in a private ceremony. Our original wedding date is very special to us because it takes place on the anniversary of Erin’s parents’ wedding. Don Stevens and Joan Ward were married on this date 56 years ago and we hope to reflect their lifelong commitment and many years of happiness in choosing 10/24/2020 as the day we tie the knot. We also picked this day in reverence to the beloved Joan, who passed away 4 years ago and will be present in spirit. We will now also be continuing the celebration a year later on October 30, 2021 - close to Halloween, our favorite holiday! Please check the FAQs for tips on appropriate attire.
How do a designer and a freelance musician meet? Off a dating site, originally, through a mutual love of the movie “The Lion King.” However, Erin was too busy to return Josiah’s last message and they probably never would have met if Erin had not happened to walk into Josiah’s then-place-of-work a few weeks after their exchange. Josiah, by chance at the register, took Erin’s order, and through a Bangkok Thai Chicken burrito order, a first date was eventually scheduled. The rest, of course, is history.
Our wedding venue, “French’s Point,” is a gorgeous 20 acre coastal hideaway located near Bangor, ME. Though connected to the shore and not a true island, it offers panoramic views of the ocean and many lovely accouterments such as a gazebo, several firepits, pathways into the woods, and several unique gathering spaces for wedding events. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with you in this gorgeous location, continuing another Stevens tradition by adding to their long list of Maine weddings!
We are walking down the aisle near Halloween, because both of us love dark and spooky things. Our vision for the wedding will hopefully reflect that in a subtle way, with Fall-inspired arrangements by Bad Rabbit Flowers and dreamy October themes orchestrated by our planner, Rachel Sisson. Live music from Jason Anick and the Swingers will warm your soul and get your feet moving, with some surprising appearances from special guests as well. After a family-style dinner, DJ Mac Gastow will open up the dance floor for a set until ~10pm, and then join us for a silent disco for the last hour of the night. Keep an eye out for white pumpkins, harvest themes, and color palettes reflecting homage to our recently passed (black) cat Frankly, as well as our current (black) kitten Coraline and (orange and white) kitten Wybie.
