It’s finally happening!

Sunday, May 5, 2019: the day had finally come. Travis had just—literally just, it was the day before—earned his master’s degree, meaning the clock was ticking. “Let’s wait to get engaged until we both finish grad school.” That was the arrangement we both had with each other. On Tuesday we were flying out to Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise celebration for Travis’ graduation, so naturally, Michelle’s assumption (“expectation”) was that this is when it would occur—somewhere amidst the beautiful Alaskan wilderness with an idyllic Bob Ross-esque backdrop. This assumed lack of surprise was unacceptable to Travis. So on Sunday, while we were out for a celebratory dinner date, our good friend Cameron went over to the house and set it all up in the kitchen: custom dog tags on brand new bow tie collars that matched Travis’ shirt he was wearing. The tags read, “I know it’s early. Will you marry me?” The answer was obviously yes and now, instead of Travis freaking out about dropping the ring off a glacier, we were both able to enjoy and celebrate the entire cruise!
