How We Met

I swiped right, he swiped up

As many of you know, Tinder is a dating app that can be used for various reasons. The app shows you pictures of a person and you can read a small biography (if they put one in). You can either swipe left if you're not interested or right if you are...and in Sean's case he swiped up - which meant SUPER like. We messaged a couple times on Tinder and decided to meet up. Unfortunately our date night had rain and thunderstorms in the forecast, Sean decided on Boardroom in Dupont Circle which has boardgames from the 90s. Great idea, right? Little did he know they had a pool tournament, and the crowd was a little different than we had expected. A friend told me to keep first dates short (2 hours max), well 4 hours later we decided the night should come to an end. Sean dropped me off at my apartment. I was convinced Sean was not interested, and that I wasn't going to see him again. In a panic I told him I was going to kiss him (because why not? He's hot!) and ran out of the car. His face was absolutely priceless. I thought I wasn't going to see him again but I heard from him the next day :) After that night, we were inseparable. Our second date was paddleboarding on the Potomac - and we ended up hanging out the entire day. From then on - it was just meant to be. We had beach trips, went to amusement parks and enjoyed beer gardens. It was pretty quick that we realized that this was real and we couldn't be any happier!

The Proposal

Diamond Head Mountain - Oahu, Hawaii

Sean and I both enjoy the outdoors - hiking, paddleboarding, and anything that involves the beach. Diamond Head is a pretty popular hike in Oahu so we knew that that was on our list of things to do - for Sean a MAJOR part of our vacation! We planned to do Diamond Head for sunrise, which meant waking up around 5:00 am because the park opened at 6:00 am. I did NOT want to go, and was probably a little more annoyed that we were waking up so early on our vacation. I decided to put on some bright pink ankle socks and Sean goes "Are you seriously wearing those?" Eventually I woke up and we made our way to the top. Diamond Head is a pretty touristy hike and there were a lot of people there. The hike was easy and there's a trail that you must follow and signs that say "surveillance cameras in use" and "do not cross" everywhere. Sean wanted to break the rules and go to a bunker that was at the top but I refused because of all the signs! I had no idea (obviously) but the bunker he wanted to go to was where he wanted to propose. I told him I was willing to go to another bunker where other people were going. We took a picture before going to the bunker and as I was BREAKING THE RULES crossing a fence, Sean slipped a note to a bystander asking if he was willing to take our pictures while he proposed. The guy got so excited he ran AWAY to his friends to tell them as Sean was subtly trying to figure out what he was doing. While this was going on I'm standing on the bunker, nervous I'm going to get thrown out, yelling "Are you coming?" - Well he came, he asked, and I said "shut up" and then "yes." Sean out-did himself with the proposal and the guy who took our pictures was wonderful!
