A Tale of Two Time Zones

How an East Coast girl found her Midwest boy

How does a New York girl end up falling in love with a Midwestern boy? In Rebecca and Vince’s case, it started with Teacher of the Year. In 2020, Rebecca was named Delaware Teacher of the Year and met Kansas Teacher of the Year Tabatha Rosproy. The two quickly became close friends, and before long, Tabatha mentioned that she had a brother in Kansas named Vince who she thought Rebecca should meet. Their paths finally crossed during the National Teacher of the Year celebrations in Washington, D.C. - and almost didn’t. Vince had a work conference at the same time where Shakira was performing, but thankfully, he chose D.C. One evening, Tabatha invited Rebecca upstairs to “meet her family,” where she met Vince. Conversation came easily, including a surprisingly long discussion about palm reading - which Rebecca later learned may have been Vince’s attempt to hold her hand. Soon, they were talking constantly from halfway across the country. A few months later, Vince bought his first menorah so they could light the Hanukkah candles together over FaceTime. It was one of the first moments that showed Rebecca just how willing he was to learn about and embrace the things that mattered to her. On December 27, 2021, at the top of the Empire State Building, Vince officially asked Rebecca to be his girlfriend. Two years later, with the Brooklyn Bridge and Jane’s Carousel behind them, he asked her to marry him. Eventually, the New York girl who never imagined she would end up with a boy from Kansas packed up her life and moved to Wichita. Somewhere between two time zones, countless flights and FaceTimes, adventures and everyday life, Rebecca and Vince became home for one another. Looking back, it took quite a few things falling into place: two Teacher of the Year honors, one matchmaking sister, a decision to choose D.C. over Shakira, and one very long conversation about palm reading. Maybe it was luck, maybe it was fate, or maybe there was a little bit of magic and God’s blessing along the way. Whatever brought their paths together, Rebecca and Vince are grateful it did - and they can’t wait to celebrate the next chapter with all of you!
