Piscinas Naturais dos Biscoitos
Can also be found on the map as Zona Balnear dos Biscoitos. Joao's favorite place to swim as a kid! If you're feeling adventurous, jump off the top rock at Belo Abismo (Joao still refuses)
Piscinas Naturais das Quatro Ribeiras
Also can be found under Zona Balnear das Quatro Ribeiras. Another favorite swimming spot (this one is Olivia's!) - tons of stairs, but it's worth it! Bring goggles/snorkel gear, and find a sunny spot to warm up after a good swim
Zona balnear das Cinco Ribeiras
Head swimming here before or after (ou por que nao os dois?) going to Queijo Vaquinha. It's on a quieter side of the island. Joao and I had so much fun swimming with Laura here in 2024!
Zona Balnear da Silveira
This swimming area (concrete, not beach) is the closest to downtown Angra do Heroísmo- because it's quite open, keep in mind that the waves can be strong here!
Praia da Riviera
The biggest sand beach on Terceira- it's a great spot!! Located about 25-30 minutes drive from Angra do Heroismo
Small beach (Prainha) of Praia da Vitória
Sand beaches are not common in Terceira, but if you need a beach day, we'd recommend Prainha (little beach) in Praia da Vitória- if you're feeling up for some exercise, hike up to the Miradouro do Facho (viewpoint overlooking Praia da Vitória) or head closer to the main avenue to have some Super Bock mini beers
Lar Doce Livro
Ig: livraria_lardocelivro This bookstore-cafe-bar is so cute, perfect for an afternoon with some wine/cocktails! In downtown Angra do Heroísmo, so it's close to lots of other sites and shops.
Tasca Das Tias
Centrally located restaurant in Angra do Heroísmo, a great spot for local cuisine and near tons of shops!
Tasca dos Camões
A bar/restaurant. Beautiful views over the Bay and you can see the ilheus das cabras (islets) in the distance. One of our fav memories from 2025 was getting a lil tipsy here with a caneca (big ol beer) and some Tremoços - marinated lupini beans that are a must-have alongside your cerveja!
Quinta dos Açores
Enjoy lunch or dinner here - and save room for ice cream! Plus, they have a shop full of local food/wine/drinks for you to stock up before leaving :)
Queijo Vaquinha
Enjoy artisanal cheeses while watching DVDs of Azorean street bullfights. Don't leave without trying sandes de alcatra (sandwich with a local pot roast) and wash it down with a craft beer!
Ginsu
If you're craving sushi- this is the spot!
Delman Bar & Lounge
HIGHLY recommend getting to Delman's for a drink (or several) and a giggle with someone you love. The best azorean gin & tonics, great views, and a spot where you'll see people of all ages hanging out.
Algar do Carvão
This was a beautiful geological experience- none of the photos do it justice, so we hope you can experience it for yourself! And treat yourself to some of the wild blackberries on the paths around the site (just be wary of the thorns!)
Furnas do Enxofre
Visiting the Furnas do Enxofre really lets you experience that the island is indeed volcanic...see and smell the volcanic gases being emitted through crevices and fractures. This is a free park and is a nice walk to see local flora and fauna (you might even see some Azorean blueberries!)
Monte Brasil Nature Reserve
Monte Brasil is a peninsula in Angra do Heroismo, easy to access from the city center. It offers lots of walking paths/hikes with beautiful views of the bay, a cat colony (for my cat ppl out there), a playground, and fortresses dating back to the 16th/17th centuries. Local tour companies also offer e-bike tours of the peninsula
