Flight

DCA (Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport)

The closest airport to the city, right across the Potomac in Arlington. After landing, you can grab the Blue/Yellow Metro lines straight from the terminal or take a quick 15 minute taxi/Uber/Lyft ride to downtown.

Flight

IAD (Washington Dulles International Airport)

~26 miles west of DC, Dulles serves as a major hub for domestic and international flights, particularly for our folks who prefer United. You can take the freshly finished Silver Line Metro into the city (pennies on the dollar, but a time commitment) or plan for a 45-60 minute drive. While less geographically convenient, IAD does offer a greater variety of airlines and routes than DCA, depending on your needs.

Flight

BWI (Baltimore-Washington International Airport)

About 30 miles northeast of DC, BWI often offers competitive fares, especially for our Southwest travelers. You can reach the city by taking the MARC Train or Amtrak to Union Station - there's a free shuttle from the airport to the rail station - or plan for a 60-90 minute drive. If you do fly through BWI, make sure to report back to Chip on how the terminal carpets were looking.

Train

Union Station (Amtrak)

Offering frequent train service along the Northeast Corridor, with trips from Boston (7 hrs), New York (3.5 hrs), Philadelphia (2 hrs), and if you're a particular fan of the rails, Claremont, NH (11 hrs - but only on the Vermonter train). If any of Olivia's guests from the 603 make that trek, please make sure to vlog it for her.

Rental Car

By Car

If you're coming from the Northeast, DC is accessible via I-95 South. From New Hampshire, expect about an 8-hour drive (ask Walt for the best routes - he's driven it enough). Philadelphia is roughly 3 hours away, and New York City if 4-5 hours, traffic depending. Parking can be challenging in the city, so check with your hotel about parking options.

Travel Note

Our Rec

For those flying from the West Coast (California, Colorado), consider IAD for its wider range of direct flights. If you're coming from the Northeast (Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Connecticut), Amtrak to Union Station or a flight to DCA are your best bets. Driving is a good option if you're planning to explore the region. While BWI might offer cheaper fares, remember to factor in the additional travel time and costs to reach the city.
