For out of town guests:
We live in South Pasadena, which is on the east side of LA. It's a very easy to navigate little area with plenty of hotels and Airbnbs nearby.
Unfortunately the public transit in LA is lacking (don't get me started), so you'll need to rent a car or rely on Lyfts/Ubers to get around.
