Olivia and Alex met back in 2019, working as seasonal zookeepers in the Children's Zoo Barn at the Columbus Zoo. A rogue goat got them talking when Alex asked Olivia if she needed any help getting him back to the space he belonged. Of course she said no, but the door between them had been opened. Alex soon traveled to Dallas, Texas for his first full-time job and a few months later, Olivia also moved to Texas, Fort Worth to be exact, for her first job. This was around the time the world turned upside down and the COVID 19 pandemic occurred. After about 8 months of living 45 minutes from each other, Alex and Olivia met up for dinner for the first time. It brought back all the feelings they had felt when they first met in Columbus. Due to the pandemic, Alex had been searching for a new job, and in February 2021, accepted a new job at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, LA. It was at this time that Olivia told Alex a choice had to be made. Either try long distance or close the door on their relationship. After what felt like an eternity, Alex told Olivia he wanted to try long distance, and the rest is history. For three years, the two would do long-distance from Texas to Louisiana, and in 2023, from Texas to Ohio when Alex received a new job at the Columbus Zoo. About a year later, Olivia would find herself in a position to leave Fort Worth and move back home to Columbus, where she later accepted a full-time position at the Columbus Zoo as well. Since then, the two have been living happily ever after in the suburbs with jobs they always dreamed of, together. In May 2025, the two, along with Alex's parents, took the trip of a lifetime to Tanzania. In the middle of the Serengeti, Alex proposed to Olivia on 5/10/25. After returning home, the two have added a new family member, a dog named Baxter that they love very much. Olivia and Alex are so excited to celebrate their love and embark on their next chapter with all their close friends and family.
