Before Oliver and Sabina met on April 7th, 2018, they had almost met two other times. Oliver Jenkins grew up in Stow, Massachusetts with mom Julia, dad Christopher, and sister Madeline. From the moment he could walk, Oliver gravitated toward puzzles, trains, and anything that he could take apart and put back together. This meant that on April 17th, 2010, he found himself at the FIRST Robotics Championship in Atlanta, and later that day, at the FIRST Robotics “RoboProm”. Sabina Smajlaj grew up in the Bronx, with mom Flora, dad Zef, and siblings, Sebastian, Florina, and Enzo. Sabina loved to read science fiction and watch “How It’s Made’. When Sabina learned about an all-female robotics team at her high school, she knew that’s where she belonged. Fast forward to April 17th, 2010 and Sabina also finds herself at the FIRST Robotics Championship in Atlanta, and later that day, at the FIRST Robotics “RoboProm”. But Oliver and Sabina do not meet. On August 13th, 2016 Sabina is gifted tickets from her employer to attend a Halsey concert at Madison Square Garden. That same day, Oliver's roommate, Miles, buys last minute tickets to the same concert and invites him to join, which he does. And again - Oliver and Sabina do not meet. But as they say, the third time's the charm: on April 7th, 2018, both Sabina and Oliver decide to volunteer at the FIRST Robotics NYC Regional Competition. They’re both tasked with showing VIP guests around and finally... they meet. They spend each moment between guest tours talking about everything and nothing and when it is time for Sabina to head out six hours later, they’re both too shy to ask to stay in contact. As Sabina walks to the subway, she considers running back to ask the sweet boy with the shining eyes for his number. At the same time, Oliver is wondering if he should run down the street and ask the girl with the adorable smile for her number. Neither happens. But Sabina and Oliver aren’t the giving-up types. They take the snippets of information they had learned about each other and turn to, where else, LinkedIn. A connection request and a few short messages later, suddenly they find themselves at the beginning of a love story that seems to have been fated from the start.
