Gusaba is a traditional Rwandan pre-wedding ceremony where the groom's family formally asks for the bride's hand in marriage. It symbolizes respect and unites both families, emphasizing community and cultural traditions. While Gusaba is traditionally done pre-wedding, we are electing to perform Gusaba during the wedding & instead of a traditional western wedding ceremony.
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident: 👉 Traditional western wedding attire (suits, dresses, etc.) 👉 Mishanana (optional for most guests, required for those involved in the Gusaba ceremony) Women: Please avoid wearing red or white ⛔
The Rwandese Mishanana is a traditional attire worn by both men and women during cultural ceremonies, weddings, and formal events. For women, it features a flowing wraparound skirt with a sash over a sleeveless blouse, while men wear a wraparound garment paired with a shirt and often accessorize with cultural items. It symbolizes elegance, respect, and Rwandan heritage. For pictures you can check out this Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/deborahuwamahoro/mishanana/
