What it means: These two phrases are very common in today's weddings. They indicate that the wedding party will be in formal wedding attire, and it's optional for all guests. En una invitación, "corbata negra opcional" significa que los hombres en la fiesta pueden usar esmoquin negro, pero no están obligados a hacerlo. What to wear: We recommend a dark suit or tux for the men and formal evening wear (floor length dresses or evening pant suits) for the women.

If your invitation says “and Guest,” then yes, if not, we would prefer if it was just you. Si tu invitación dice “e invitado” entonces sí, si no, preferimos que solo fuera usted.
