The Proposal

12/2/2018

Spott's park was our new favorite place to exercise and take Louis on walks at. Making the walk from Spott’s to Buffalo Bayou was always fun. We’d see the skyline, cross the bayou, appreciate the trees, and visit the dog park. On a Sunday morning, we decided to drive to the park and walk to The Kitchen at Dunlavy. It was a walk that we always enjoyed taking part in due to the beauty of the Houston skyline while crossing the Rosemont bridge. As we were walking, I was complaining about how hungover I felt from the night before (our friends had a party that I had a lot of fun at), while Ola was just hearing me out and sweating profusely. I remember being really happy about being on the way to get some yummy food; I could have never guessed what was going to happen next. As we started crossing the bridge, I noticed a dad taking pictures of his sons posing in front of the skyline. All I could think about was how cute of a place the Rosemont bridge is to take pictures. As we got closer to him, Ola paused to look at the skyline and all of the romantic locks placed on the bridge. He turned to me and started spewing romantic words and pulled a lock and a sharpie out of his pocket so that we could write our date on it and attach it to the bridge. I immediately thought, "WOW, how romantic!" He proceeded to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I started crying and shouting "YES!" over and over again. I turned around and the man “taking pictures of his family” was actually our incognito photographer. He shuffled over to us and captured one of the best moments of our lives on camera. Our family quickly came out from hiding behind a huge tree and we got to celebrate our engagement with them. Needless to say, my hangover quickly went away as we were both overwhelmed with happiness and a sense of euphoria. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, we never made it to The Kitchen at Dunlavy.

How We Met

We met at the University of Houston in a Research Methods psychology course in the social work building on campus (we were both psychology majors). Early on in the semester a handsome guy came up to me to introduce himself. Ola.....like hello in spanish? Ola went home that day to tell his mother that he had met his future wife. He has always had good instincts. Nonetheless, we immediately became friends. We sat together during class, studied together, took the same classes, would have lunch together, and I may have joined a certain school organization to find excuses to see him more often than usual. We quickly developed a crush on one another, but the time wasn't right. Patience makes the heart grow fonder right? As soon as there was finally an opportunity to grow our friendship into something more, we took the chance and here we are....writing our story on a wedding website.
