For any hikers among our guests - Cowles Bog is an epic hiking trail not far from Valpo. The trail is a little over 4.5 miles, but winds through marshes, forest, somewhat steep dunes, but opens up to a completely private and pristine beach for hikers. It's one of our favorite spots from our home! We highly recommend this hike if you are interested. There are some steep sand dunes you will have to ascend and descend, and you will need a car to access. Please refer to the website for more info.
We are about 45-60 minutes outside of Chicago. If you rented a car, you can drive, however, downtown Valparaiso is roughly a 15-20 minute drive from a South Shore Line (website linked) train station. Dune Park station has free parking, and is about a 60 minute train ride to Millennium Station in the city!
Downtown Valpo has a lot of great lunch spots, plentiful parking, and is very walkable.
