Bridget and Ruaidhri met in January 2014. They met in South Bend, Indiana where Ruaidhri was studying abroad for the year at the University of Notre Dame, and Bridget had just returned to Saint Mary’s College after studying in Ireland the year before. Bridget, being the good girl she is, followed her Mom’s directions and did not fall in love on her year abroad. But her mom did not take into account that she would meet the foreign boy in the middle of America. It was Friday night at the Linebacker Lounge in South Bend and Bridget was talking to Ruaidhri’s friend Dom [see the 'Photo' section on our website :) ]. Ruaidhri was patiently waiting to swoop in and sweep Bridget off her feet. Once Bridget turned her eyes towards him, Ruaidhri laid some game. After learning he went to Trinity College Dublin, Bridget mentioned she had studied abroad in Ireland, but he claimed he already knew that as they had met a year ago on a night out in Dublin. He even claimed he had her number in his phone. When he pulled out his phone, he discovered her number had been “deleted” and said she should put it in again... They continued to run into each other until March when they went on their first date. Bridget called her mom and told her she had a date with an Irish boy studying abroad. Her mom told her she should invite him home for Easter, only 2 weeks away! Bridget laughed it off, but the next day when they were sitting at a bus stop, Bridget decided to go for it and invited him home. A first date and a road trip home to meet the whole family all in the same month, Ruaidhri must have really liked her. And from that day on, it was smooth sailing... LOL. International relationships are hard. 6 hour time difference, a visit maybe once every 6 months, it wasn’t easy but they made it work because they knew the other was worth it!
