Ferry Boats *** IMPORTANT BOOK YOUR RESERVATIONS!
There will be more information being sent out about getting to the islands. The only way to get to the island is by boat or plane, and the airport does not service any major airlines. We will update this section when the summer ferry schedule becomes available to us. It is worth noting however that the last boat off the island usually leaves around 10pm and the first boat to the island is at 7am. Traveling between the islands is somewhat easier, but you need to have a reservation to ride the ferry boat with a car. UPDATE: Summer schedule is available now! Please use the link to make your ferry reservations. You will need a reservation from Anacortes to Friday Harbor (or whatever island you're staying on). You will need a reservation leaving Friday Harbor (or Orcas) as well. There are no ferry reservations between the islands or leaving Lopez. Some sailings are already showing full. Don't panic, additional slots open up 2 weeks before the scheduled sailing and 2 days before the scheduled sailing. They open up at 7 am Pacific Time. DO NOT WAIT TO BOOK!!! If you can't get your desired sailing now, set an alarm and book it as soon as it opens at the 2 week slot. In a pinch you can sail to a different island and then take an inter-island boat to San Juan. Don't plan on this. Plan on the drive to and from the airport taking at least 2 hours. Between landing and getting your rental car takes about an hour. If you land at 11 am you cannot make a 2 pm sailing. You need to be ticketed and inline 30 minutes prior to departure. They will give away your spot. If you don't have a reservation you will be on standby. This is a bad place to be. DO NOT COUNT ON STANDBY. Unfortunately there are very limited rooms still available at the resort. This will be the location for the ceremony and the reception, and there are many many options for Airbnb‘s in close proximity to the resort. Additionally there are many hotels in Friday Harbor just 10 to 15 minutes down the road. ****** I would highly HIGHLY highly recommend booking sooner rather than later as this island is a very popular vacation spot and rooms and Airbnb’s tend to get booked early, or go way up in price. I really don’t mind to take questions about recommending other accommodations, particularly if you’re not sure who other guests may be going, so that you can plan to stay around the folks you know.
