Katie and Steven met at a concert in Kansas City on Steven’s birthday. With what may be deemed as the worst pickup line ever, Steven somehow convinced Katie to talk to him and go dancing after the concert. Phone numbers were exchanged and non-stop texting ensued. Later on that summer as fate would have it, Steven and Katie had flights that happened to be landing in the same airport. Steven knew that he had to see her again so he changed his flight to make sure that this would happen. As they saw each other, each knew that there was something a little more there. Steven and Katie continued to stay in contact with one another through texting and phone calls. Steven went on a European vacation and made sure to send Katie pictures of all the places, wishing that she was there with him. They dreamed of traveling together and once back from his trip, they began making long-distance weekend road trips to visit one another. Vacations together were planned and feelings grew quickly between Steven and Katie. On one particular trip in Salzburg, Steven and Katie spent a few hours just sitting on a bench looking out on the Alps. It was at this moment and place that Steven knew that Katie was the one for him. After more than a year of long-distance dating and trying to decide on who would move, Steven was able to find a job in Des Moines and moved that following year. Steven then began plotting how and when he would, “Pop the Question.” Katie and Steven loved the Christmas markets in Europe, so Steven decided to try and plan a surprise trip there. A photographer was hired weeks before and Steven told Katie this was her Christmas present as she always said she wanted pictures taken for Christmas cards. On this trip Steven and Katie made their way back to their favorite bench in Salzburg, and this is where Steven asked Katie to be his wife. She happily accepted.
