Most international visitors, including US and UK citizens, are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) or visa to enter Kenya. Requirements vary by nationality, so please check with the Kenya Immigration Service at immigration.go.ke or your country's embassy for the most current requirements specific to your passport. Apply for an eTA here: https://fns.immigration.go.ke
Kenya's eTA is applied for online at etakenya.go.ke. The eTA is valid for travel within 90 days from the date of issuance. The process is straightforward, and applications are generally processed within 3 business days (72 hours). But do not leave this until the last minute.
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates, meaning it should not expire before July 22, 2027, at the earliest. Check your passport book now — if it's close to expiring, begin the renewal process immediately as government passport processing times can be unpredictable. Please remember, while you may not need to have your passport with you at the wedding, it's important to carry it with you at all times while in Kenya.
Most international guests will fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. We will share detailed arrival instructions in your itinerary packet in November 2026.
From the US East Coast, expect roughly 15–17 hours total travel time with one connection, typically through London, Amsterdam, Dubai, Doha, or Addis Ababa. Direct flights from JFK Airport to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with Kenya Airways run approximately 13-16 hours. From the UK, direct flights to Nairobi run approximately 8–9 hours. We recommend building in at least one buffer day on arrival to rest and adjust before the celebration.
Absolutely, and we highly recommend this. International travel to Kenya involves long-haul flights, potential layovers, and variable conditions. Please purchase a comprehensive policy that covers trip cancellation, medical evacuation, and lost luggage. We will not be able to assist with costs related to travel disruptions, so having solid coverage gives everyone peace of mind. If you have any questions for purchasing insurance please get in touch with lizbeth.kariuki@fora.travel

We strongly recommend consulting your doctor or a travel health clinic at least 6 months before departure. Commonly recommended vaccinations and health precautions for Kenya include: 1. Yellow Fever - A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is recommended for entry into Kenya if you are traveling from or through a Yellow Fever endemic country. Carry your Yellow Fever vaccination card (the yellow booklet) with you in your travel documents. Keep it with your passport as it may be checked at the border. We also recommend carrying a copy of any prescriptions you are bringing into the country. 2. Typhoid — Recommended for all travelers. 3. Hepatitis A and B — Recommended for most travelers. 4. Malaria — Kenya is a malaria-risk country. Your doctor will likely prescribe a malaria prophylaxis medication such as Malarone, Doxycycline, or Mefloquine. Begin taking it as directed before your departure. 5. Routine vaccinations — Make sure your standard vaccinations (MMR, Tdap, flu, COVID-19) are up to date. Beyond your prescriptions, we recommend packing insect repellent with DEET, sunscreen, a basic first aid kit, hand sanitizer, any personal medications with documentation, and oral rehydration salts. A full packing guide will be included in the November 2026 final details packet. It would also be wise to carry basic cold & flu meds and/or digestive medications for emergencies.
We are arranging a room block at a nearby property for wedding guests and will share all details and booking instructions by June 2026. We strongly encourage you to book within our room block as spaces are limited and staying together as a group adds to the experience. Details will be posted on the Travel page.
Please do! Kenya is one of the most extraordinary places on earth, and we would love for you to experience it fully. Popular additions include a safari in the Maasai Mara, a visit to the coast in Mombasa or Diani Beach, or a few days in Nairobi. Recommendations will be shared in your travel packet.
The Kenyan Shilling (KES) is the local currency. USD is widely accepted in tourist areas and hotels, but having local currency on hand is useful for smaller purchases and markets. ATMs are available in Nairobi and major towns. Avoid exchanging money at airports — rates are much better at local banks or licensed bureaux de change in town.
Kenya operates on East Africa Time (EAT), which is UTC+3. There is no daylight saving time. When planning calls or coordinating with family back home, keep this in mind.
