FAQs

If you have any questions other than what we have listed here, please reach out to Andrew and Nora!
Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Be prepared for literally anything. Day time temperatures could be 13-18°C (55-65°F), dipping to 7-13°C (45-55°F) at night. Sun, rain and hail are all possibilities. If you plan on hiking during an extended trip to Scotland be aware that weather in the mountains can be extremely variable. In May it wouldn’t be unusual to experience sun, rain, hail, more sun, and hurricane force winds in a single day. If hiking please use the excellent Mountain Weather Information Service daily forecasts, they also give a probability of cloud free summits (again… variable!) https://www.mwis.org.uk/forecasts/scottish

Question

Are kids invited to the wedding?

Answer

While we love all of your children, our wedding ceremony and reception will be adults-only events. Kids and any caregivers are welcome to join us for the welcome party and Sunday BBQ.

Question

I’m not from Scotland, can I hire/wear a kilt to your wedding?

Answer

YES. There are plenty of kilt hire companies in St. Andrews, Dundee (25 minute drive), Edinburgh (60 minute drive). We think you’ll be most comfortable renting a kilt suit with a tweed jacket (with or without a waistcoat). A black jacket, or Bonnie Prince Charlie jacket, might feel a little too formal but is fine. A Jacobite shirt might feel a little too informal. Don’t forget to bring your own white dress shirt and a tie or bow tie (if you’re so inclined). Question

What is your COVID policy?

Answer

In order for everyone to safely celebrate together, we ask that all guests be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Make sure to keep up on the latest requirements for entering and traveling in the UK. Thank you for your understanding!

Question

Do you have recommendations of places to visit? Part 1!

Answer

Edinburgh and Glasgow are both excellent and fun cities, worthy of your time! Outside of the cities it’s much more convenient to have a car to explore. Below are a few favorite places of Andrew and Nora: Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park Loch Lomond & The Trossachs stands out for its many beautiful bodies of water. Plenty of opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and climbing. Once Nora went there, drank beers and listened to traditional Scottish music in a bar in Balloch, right on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond.

Question

Do you have recommendations of places to visit? Part 2!

Answer

Glencoe Unparalleled natural beauty, with truly the most scenic road in the world. Take time to stop frequently on the way and soak up the scenery. There is a 17th century inn just off the main road called The Kings House Hotel. There are tame wild deer that will come up and watch you drink your whisky. Sleep, eat and drink in the fantastic Clachaig Inn - Nora and Andy spent a New Year here together, and the Inn is a favorite of the Baxter’s. Skye Take the ferry from Mallaig on your journey over for the full experience. Once on the island, drive to Carbost to visit the Talisker distillery. Do not miss the Oyster Shed hiding behind the distillery - intercept the oysters and scallops pulled fresh from the loch that day before they head to restaurants in Edinburgh and London. The Quiraing, Old Man of Storr, and the Fairy Pools, all short hikes are must dos! Depart the island via The Skye Bridge over Loch Alsh and and visit Eileen Donan Castle

Question

Do you have recommendations of places to visit? The Adventure Zone

Answer

The Northwest of Scotland is more remote but exceptionally beautiful, if you have time it’s worth exploring the coast and mountains surrounding Torridon, Poolewe, Ullapool. The most adventurous will find great rewards on the Outer Hebrides (Harris, Lewis, Barra), including the most spectacular beaches. You could also visit Islay, home of Andrew’s favourite distillery- Lagavulin. A drive over to Oban (also an excellent distillery) and then a ferry to Islay is required. This tiny island isn’t convenient to get to, but is home to nine very unique working distilleries producing the peatiest whisky around.
