You can take an organized tour to Capri - or take the ferry from Sorrento! Easy to get to, and gorgeous to walk around. Highly recommend a Capri day trip.
Positano is one of the most beautiful towns on the Amalfi coast, and it's an easy day trip from Sorrento. You can get there by bus, ferry, or car service.
Place to swim and rent sun beds in town.
Pompeii is another great day trip from Sorrento - there are plenty of tours that leave from Sorrento for ease of organizing your day-trip.
Italy's churches are works of art - I'd recommend at least peaking your head into every one that you pass!
If your trip takes you to Rome - you need to go to the Pantheon. It's amazing inside (and free to enter - it's technically a church) but I would also suggest walking through Piazza Della Rotunda either early in the morning or late in the evening when it's less crowded to get the full effect of how amazing it is that this building still exists.
Start in Piazza Trilussa and wander around this neighborhood in Rome - it has a lot of cute and quirky stores, restaurants, and bars as well as some gorgeous churches - Santa Maria in Trastevere is definitely one not to miss.
Chiese di San Luigi de' Francesi is one of the most beautiful churches in Rome and it's right adjacent to Piazza Navona so definitely make a point to stop in it on your way. This church is significant because it houses some of the most famous paintings by Caravaggio (probably the coolest Baroque artist). The most famous paintings there are The Calling of St. Mathew, The Martyrdom of St. Mathew, and The Inspiration of St. Mathew and they are located in the chapel closest to the altar on the left.
Located right by the Pantheon (if facing the front of the Pantheon, walk along the left side of the pantheon until you see the obelisk on your left - it's the church right in that Piazza) this Church has a Michelangelo statue (Christ carrying the cross) located by the altar as well as the Carafa Chapel (to the right of the altar) which houses art by Filippino Lippi.
This church is not to far from the Colosseum and it's cool because I think it shows Rome's age well. Across Roman history the city was continuously sacked by invaders and then rebuilt directly on top of the remnants of the previous structure. You can tour this church and actually see the different layers going back to when it was a pagan temple.
Get tickets in advance if you want to go!
This is a great gallery to stop in if you like Baroque architecture and prefer museums that take an hour or less to get through.
This church is another great place to go to see famous art by Michelangelo - notably one of his most famous sculptures - the statue of Moses by the Tomb of Julius II (1513).
