Lincoln Park Zoo
In our opinion, this is Chicago's best free activity, especially when the lights are up for Christmas.

This should be walkable from all hotel options. It's packed around Christmas but a Chicago Tradition.
Promontory Point
Just down the road from Katherine's apartment, this was a favorite spot for lake walks and a weeknight dinner alongside the lake. It is also one of the best views of the city in my opinion :) Parking can be found in Hyde Park along S Shore drive between 54th and 55th street.
Museum of Science & Industry
The Christmas around the world exhibit is fantastic and the museum itself is great.
