Flight
We recommend flying into Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" (commonly initialized as AIA) and from there, taking a separate flight to Santorini (Thira) International Airport. Connecting flights are frequent and more affordable than flying directly to Santorini. The Santorini (Thira) International Airport is small, in fact it only has one conveyor belt running. If you are feeling adventurous, you could take the ferry.
Hotel
If you are staying in Athens for a layover, we strongly recommend this hotel. Aside from its modern aesthetic, it's walking distance to all major historical sites. Across the street is the Temple of Zeus, National Gardens of Athens, Panathenaic Stadium and not too far in the other direction is the main Market in Plaka and the Acropolis site. The hotel provides a nice breakfast. If you arrive around lunch time or later, there is a nice little wine bar that you walk through before entering the hotel lobby.
Rental Car
In Greece, Uber and Lyft are illegal and anyone caught riding in one will be heavily fined. Locals recommend using Beat to get around. We have used this in the past and recommend downloading the application and filling out your information before leaving.
Rental Car
There are no ride sharing services in Santorini. We recommend having cash on hand for taxis, however they do accept credit cards for a fee. The taxis are inexpensive and familiar with almost all hotels, Airbnb and resorts.
House Or Rental
The Santorini Ceremony and Reception will be at the Canaves Oia Hotel, we recommend staying somewhere nearby. In the past we have stayed in Firostefani at Villa Maria Damigou, a cute little bed and breakfast. Other people have recommended staying on the other side of the island, in Fira or Imgerovili.
