How They Met

A Softball Love Story

Andre and Lauren first met while playing coed softball in Queens, NY about five years ago. Their mutual friend Richie (say hi, he's in the wedding party!) recruited Andre as an extra player one weekend when the team needed help. They quickly hit it off as friends, even after Lauren threw a softball at Andre when he wasn't paying attention (oops). They would go on to spend numerous afternoons at B.B.'s Pub and Grill playing darts and having a few beers while Richie taught Lauren how to play Quick Draw. About a year later, Lauren asked Andre to go out for a few drinks after work at the Headless Horseman in the city. They chatted at the bar for hours and had so much fun that they didn't even notice the time until the bartender announced last call. The night ended with them closing the bar down and sharing a cab home. A few weeks later, Lauren would muster up the courage to kiss Andre, and the rest is history! They are now happily engaged and living together in Park Slope, Brooklyn with their dog Addison.

The Proposal

On the morning of October 24, 2020 Andre planned a lovely brunch date at Little Owl in Tribeca. Although Lauren had grown up in NYC, she had never walked the Brooklyn Bridge; so, after brunch Andre planned for them to walk it. Lauren was so excited that she wanted to bike there, which was ironic, because she hates biking in the city. Unbeknownst to her, they were already running late, and Andre grew anxious. When they finally got to the entrance of the bridge in Manhattan and started their walk, the sun began to shine, and it turned into a beautiful warm walk. Once they arrived in Brooklyn, they found their way to the Brooklyn Promenade. This was a special place to them because a lot of their first hang outs took place there. When they sat down on a bench that overlooked the city, Andre pulled out an envelope and said it was for her. It was a card from their dog, Addison, asking Lauren to be her mommy forever! Then Andre got down on one knee and popped the question. Lauren was in such shock that she is still not sure she ever actually said the word "YES". As a second surprise, their family and friends were waiting just behind the benches ready to celebrate. After many hugs and tears, they all walked to the pier and drank champagne and ended the night eating dinner at one of their favorite Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. It was the perfect day!
