Question

What food will be provided?

Answer

Dinner will be provided on Saturday (09/16) and brunch on Sunday (09/17). You're on your own for all other meals but we'll have some stoves and coolers available for shared use (we suggest bringing your own setup if you're not flying in). There are some great takeout options if you're coming up from Albuquerque. Española is the last big city you'll drive through before getting into camp, check restaurant hours if you're coming in late, things close early! Closer to camp, we like Bode's General store for sandwiches and burritos. In Abiquiu proper, you've got a couple of options as well - again, check hours! For groceries: Our Kroger store in New Mexico is "Smith's" and there are a bunch scattered around ABQ. We also have Sprouts and Whole Foods in the city. Options diminish outside of ABQ and Bode's in Abiquiu has a very limited selection (but local wines, yay!).

Question

Where do I sleep?

Answer

We will be camping in a dispersed camping area and will have "taken over" enough campsites for everyone invited. If you're coming in early and want to hang out, Cory and Madi will be at the site from Wednesday evening onwards scaring off other campers. Please pack everything you need to camp for two nights, you know the drill! The other option is to book a place in Abiquiu, which is a 30 minute drive from camp. There is a great little Inn (Abiquiu Inn just next to the O'Keefe Museum) as well as some good AirBnB options.

Question

Are there any bathroom facilities?

Answer

There is a pit toilet at our site as well as at the daily put-in and take-out. If those gross you out, Leave No Trace and pack it out or be ready for a long and uncomfortable drive to Bode's. We encourage you to pee in the river, not around camp or along the bank - unless you're a dog then do your thing. Dog owners, please clean up your dog's poop.

Question

Is there cell phone service at the campsite?

Answer

Nope, but you can pick some up around where the dirt road begins. This lack of service means that if you call us from the road, ya might not reach us but we will be at the campsite to greet you!

Question

Is the campsite hard to find?

Answer

Nah, you simply stay on the dirt road (Forest Rd 151) until you see the river, you follow the road for about 1 mile where you'll see a sign reading "Whirlpool dispersed camping" on your left. The turnoff is here: 36°18'56.9"N 106°35'30.1"W, you can even go see it on google street view!

Question

Dogs

Answer

All of your dogs are the best dogs ever! That being said, we will have two very small babies, three fragile adult guests, AND a relatively unguarded taco bar at this event. There may also be other campers in the area who will almost certainly have unruly dogs. This wedding is open to dogs who have been approved by the bride and groom before arrival - call Cory and let's chat about the logistics!

Question

Gas

Answer

If you're coming up from Albuquerque, the last place to fill up gas before the campsite is Bode's General Store. This place also has reliable cell reception so it's a great place to meet up with friends and convoy in. While the drive isn't too far from Bode's, best to top off here in case you wind up running river shuttle a couple of times!

Question

Drugs

Answer

Cannabis is allowed in New Mexico for persons 21+ both medicinally and recreationally but because there will be several folks from the national labs in attendance (surprise drug tests) and there are different comfort levels with this substance on our guest list. Please ask in a group setting if the folks around you are okay with you smoking in close proximity to them. Don't be a dick!

Question

What if it rains?

Answer

A little rain won't stop us, and we'll have some rain structures set up. A lot of rain might stop us, but we have a suitable back-up plan if things are really bad. We'll be keeping our eyes on the road conditions and will keep you updated.

Question

Open bar?

Answer

You bet! There will also be non-alcoholic options on offer.

Question

Water!

Answer

Water is life! Hydration is cute! We will have many jugs for sharing. BYO water bottle.

Question

Will there be dancing?

Answer

We love dancing, but we're not planning any kind of formal dancing at this event - this is our favorite spot in the state and we want to keep it in great condition for the next generation.

Question

Wildlife

Answer

There are snakes! We've both seen big ol' rattlesnakes in the area but if you're respectful with them, they'll be respectful with you. Dog owners, you've been warned. We've got the standard predators, so please keep an eye on your dogs and toddlers. That being said, this area is well trafficked and we've never had any issues with bears or kitties in the area. If you're a birder, the getting can be good! Bring your binocs!

Question

The C word - What if I test positive for COVID?

Answer

If you test positive for COVID-19 before arriving, please let us know and plan on skipping the event. We'll miss you but we want to protect the rest of our guests from infection! If you test positive after the event, please let us know and we will let guests know accordingly.
