I can't remember meeting Noah but my first memory of him is that we were both at NYE party together when I was in 1st grade. I totally had a crush on him in middle school and he was very oblivious. And then he was into me after college and I freaked out said said no. It finally came together when I got the courage to send him a (debatably unclear) "I like you" text after we went to a bluegrass concert together 2 years ago. After a couple dates, we both knew we had found the one. --Ali
Yes, we've been long-distance for most of our 2-year relationship. It was difficult at times, but we found ways to feel connected and enjoy time together in meaningful and fun ways. Our methods included: 1. Watching movies together (3... 2... 1... hit play!) 2. Reading books to each other (like an audio book, but better!) 3. Work parties (Lesson planning and homeworking with Skype in the corner) 4. Playing card games online (500, Lost Cities, and Cribbage mostly) 5. Yoga (combining the methods of 1 and 3, with lots more falling over)
For the last 6 or 7 years, our families have gone camping together in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Those trips were the source of many wonderful memories and had become even more special to Ali and me since we started dating. So when I thought about proposing, our upcoming annual trip instantly came to mind. On one of the nights it looked like it was going to be a gorgeous evening so I got all prepared: I had a spot picked out, a bit of wine to drink, and a song I had written for her. But I managed to forget the ring in the tent (I had to make up an excuse to get it). But in the end she said yes, surrounded by the orange glow of the sunset and the excited love of our families. --Noah
