A love story between two best friends began TWENTY FIVE years ago, and oh what a journey it has been. Over the last 25 years, God has really outdone Himself. He opened up the windows of Heaven and poured out an abundance of blessings that we have barely had room to even receive. We have been through some of the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, but one constant that has remained true from the beginning and will remain true until the day after forever is the fact that we would still choose each other again and again, in any lifetime. The love that we share is tried and true. For all the tests and triumphs, we give all Glory to God, for He ordained us and He has kept us. We are each other’s safe space, sounding board, reality check, heart in human form, wind beneath each other’s wings, everything. To give you a little backstory- Our families have known each other from Nigeria for over 35 years, however, we didn’t get acquainted until we ran into each other in Atlanta at an Enugwu-ukwu association meeting. At the time, we were seeing other people so we went on about our lives. We reunited again on the night of Njideka’s birthday party in 1998, who was newly single and ready to mingle. Danny was single at the time as well, and we always joked that Danny apparently was the bravest man in the room, because he confidently approached me to ask for a special dance during my “first” dance that night. He said he thought that I was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, and that even though he had seen me before, there was something different about this particular night. We danced and danced, and haven’t stopped dancing since. We both shared the same vision in life and for our future as we blended our children together into one family, and the rest was history. All the pieces of our puzzle fit together perfectly. We share a love for our Nigerian culture, traveling, working hard but playing harder, FASHION (as anyone and everyone around us knows), taking lots of selfies (that we always blow our children’s phones up with), and dancing (of course). We have loved each other at our best and our worst. Life is full of things that we have no control over, but one thing that has gotten us through challenges together is learning that rather than facing our swords inward toward each other, we face them outward towards the world and fight our battles, together. We have made each other comfortable in the uncomfortable times, and pushed each other in a way that only a true best friend could. Any of the ways that we have flourished individually and as a couple over the past 25 years has largely been due to each other’s presence, support, encouragement, and love. We’ve succeeded in a lot of areas in our life together, but some of our favorite things that we have accomplished together is blending our family together and seeing our children grow up into successful young adults, starting a flourishing, successful business together and acquiring a grandson, Roman (who thinks his G-pa and DeeDee are pretty amazing), son-in-love (Jamaal), and two daughters-in-love (Jade and Kelli). They have all added to our puzzle like they belonged all along. The 25th year of marriage is known as the “Silver Anniversary,” and silver symbolizes the strong, unbreakable bond forged between two committed to each other for a quarter century, as well as the radiant love between the two of us. Here’s to a quarter-century of love, leadership, and enduring commitment to one another, and may God continue to fill our life with love, joy, good health, success, peace, and happiness. We are looking forward to seeing what the next 25 years will bring us! Happy Anniversary to us and we look forward to celebrating with you all!
