The dress code is formal/black-tie optional. For men, this means a dark suit or tuxedo. For women, a floor length gown, cocktail dress, or Indian formal attire would be fabulous.
We do not suggest you change outfits between events unless you *really* love a good fashion transformation. We recommend you come dressed for the reception so you can relax and enjoy the events without having to worry about the logistics of your wardrobe.
You may be familiar with Indian weddings where the priest officiates, the the bride wears a traditional red sari or lehenga, and the ceremony lasts an hour or more. This is not that. A Malayali wedding is a short South Indian ceremony. We look forward to sharing this special ceremony which hails from Kerala, India with you. It is comprised of a processional, the bride's father welcoming the groom, gifting of saris, and circling the altar. We will explain the different rituals during the event. You do not need to cover your head or take your shoes off for this ceremony.
We will have a short non-denominational western ceremony comprised of a processional of the bridal party, a reading from an officiant, vows, exchanging of rings and a Celtic hand-fasting ritual. You do not need to cover your head or take off your shoes for this.

August in New York is the final month of summer. It is generally warm and humid, with temperatures between 75°-85°F (24°-29°C). It is the Northeast US though, so rain is a possibility. We suggest checking the local weather report before packing.
