FAQs

Please do not hesitate to contact Stan and Ningzhou if you have further questions! It is also best to ask said questions before the week of the wedding.
Question

Can I RSVP for the wedding yet?

Answer

RSVPs are now open! Please let us know ASAP if you are able to attend using the RSVP tab above!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

We love y'all and we love your little ones. As much as we do love your children, we would love to give you the chance to have an evening away. There will be free flowing alcohol and uncensored music - we request that you come without the kiddos for the opportunity to fully enjoy yourself.

Question

What's the attire for the event?

Answer

Let's call it semi-formal garden party ? Which I guess is maybe just a garden party. And to clarify, a garden party that you are attending to view the garden, not a garden party where everyone is getting together to work on the garden. I digress. Please wear clothing that is comfortable to you, but looks nice for the pictures. Please be advised that the wedding is outdoors. The grass in the pasture itself is pretty short with a gravel/loose stone/dirt path leading up to the entrance.

Question

What's the weather like in Massachusetts in September?

Answer

Temperate to warm and generally a bit breezy. New England forecasts are notoriously fickle, so we highly recommend checking the weather immediately before your departure to make sure you are packed accordingly. This is the tail end of our summer, so expect some warmth and humidity, but not as stifling in either category as further south in the US. The event will take place mostly under a tent, but there is no AC or heat. Bringing a jacket and/or cardigan may be advisable for after sunset.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the hotels to the ceremony?

Answer

Yes! We are coordinating transportation to and from downtown Edgartown and the event. More details will be provided when they are available!

Question

Is there parking at the Alpaca Farm?

Answer

Yes! There is free parking on the farm for the duration of our event! Simply follow the signs to the farm entrance when you turn on Head of the Pond Road.

Question

I need to get back to the mainland Saturday night - how late does the ferry run? Will there be group transportation to the last ferry?

Answer

The last ferry for the night leaves from the Vineyard Haven terminal to return to Woods Hole, MA at 9:30PM. The venue is <10 minute drive from the ferry terminal at Vineyard Haven - it is readily reachable via Uber or Taxi. If you drove your own vehicle on the ferry, you need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to ferry departure to guarantee boarding. If you are planning to return to the mainland on the last ferry and are not driving your own vehicle please let us know in the RSVP form, we may coordinate a van or two to take people there if there is enough interest.

Question

Is there an afterparty???

Answer

We appreciate your enthusiasm to chill with us further! Yes, there absolutely is. Check the schedule page for details and/or keep your ears open towards the end of the wedding, we'll make sure you know where the party will continue to be!

Question

I've never ridden a ferry before! What's it like? Do I need to get there early for a security check?

Answer

We can't comment on the ferries other than the Steamship Authority ones (departing from Woods Hole) so your experience may vary on other routes, but here's what we can say about this one since most of you will likely take it. Riding this ferry is very similar to riding a bus, or going to the airport pre-9/11 if you're old enough to remember that. So long as you arrive before they pull up the boarding ramp (about 10 minutes before departure) you're free to flash your ticket and walk on. If your luggage was large enough to check at the airport, you may be asked to stow your bag in a luggage cart/shelf at no extra cost. Carry-on bags and personal items will stay with you for the trip. You can board the ferry as soon as the previous trip disembarks, which is about a half hour before the scheduled departure time. There is plenty of seating, tables interspersed through out, bathrooms, and a snack bar. The snack bar also serves light sandwiches and refreshments, including alcohol. The earlier you board the ship, the more likely you are to be able to snag a table. The trip is about 45 minutes long and it's generally a pretty smooth ride. There are no restrictions on movement during the trip (ala a fasten seat belt sign), though generally the snack bar is only open for about the middle 30 minutes. Similar to airplanes, you must keep your small pieces of luggage with you at all times and there is no smoking or drinking of outside alcohol on the vessel. There is (free) on-board wi-fi but it's bad. The crossing is short enough however that cell phone signal remains good. If you travel with your car, you maintain access to your car and may enter and exit the vehicle deck as you please. Your engine must stay off for the duration of travel. There are no amenities (or windows or circulating air, really) on the vehicle deck. Please follow crew instructions on when to return to your vehicle in preparation for disembarkation.

Question

How much does a Ferry Ticket Cost?

Answer

The Woods Hole - Martha's Vineyard Steamship Authority Ferry costs $19 round trip per adult human. There is a discount available for active duty military (must buy ticket at counter to use). Vehicle reservations incur an additional cost as explained on the travel page. If you are taking another ferry, please check that service's website for details.

Question

Is Parking in the Steamship Authority lot free?

Answer

No. Parking costs $15 per day Mon - Fri and $20 per day Saturday and Sunday. There is no limit to the amount of time you can park in the lot - though the parking attendant may ask when you plan to return so as to direct you to a long-term or short-term section. There is also no penalty if you declare you will return that same day and then do not. There is no option for free parking unless you happen to know someone with a house in Falmouth/Woods Hole. We're sorry that New England nickels and dimes like that.

Question

I'm not from the east coast and I heard y'all pay tolls when driving here? Do I need to get the toll pass package with my rental car?

Answer

Lucky you, friend of ours that's likely from the Southwest. We do not recommend buying the toll pass with your rental car. There are no tolls driving to/from Boston and the Cape. You will only incur a small charge (~$3), entering and exiting the airport via the harbor tunnels if you traveled there. Massachusetts does not have in-person tolling anymore, so simply pass through the checkpoint and your rental car company will assess you the charge when they get the bill.

Question

I have neither a car nor drivers license - is anyone else going my way that I could carpool with?

Answer

Let us know on the RSVP form or text either one of Stan or Ningzhou directly if you'd like us to let you know who else that you know is coming to the event. We can help facilitate a connection for a potential carpool.
