Rachel and Nina met during recruitment for Kappa Alpha Theta sorority at UC San Diego - bonding over their love for electronic music. The two of them became inseparable, as Rachel soon became Nina's official "Big Sis," roommate and closest friend. After college, Rachel went on to become an emergency medicine physician in San Diego and despite the distance, the two remained close. Rachel remained by Nina's side for all of her most joyful and challenging moments since college; everything from traveling through Europe to the tragic losses of her father and her best friend, Annie. Rachel has truly been there through thick and thin and for that, Nina is truly blessed to have Rachel as a friend. We love Rachel for her intelligence, sense of humor, artistic talent and outgoing nature.

Ayla Basha

Ayla and Nina met through mutual friends in San Diego. Nina could not resist the opportunity to get to know such an empowered, intelligent, creative woman. The two instantly bonded over a shared love for women's issues, politics, spirituality and of course music. Ayla has since gone on to become an internationally recognized DJ and has long served as an inspiration for Nina as an artist. Nina treasures her existential musings with Ayla about society, relationships, and health.

Charu Diwan

Charu is the oldest daughter of Nina's mom's brother. Nina and Charu first met when Charu's family immigrated from India, giving Nina the joy of finally feeling like she had a sister in the family. Some of Nina's fondest early memories with Charu are splashing around in the pool together for hours during the hottest Sacramento summer evenings. Since then, Charu went on to become an educator and mother in American Canyon and naturally has grown into an older sister figure for Nina; mentoring her on Indian culture, lecturing her about relationships and always looking out for her well-being.

Ilana Spokoyny

Ilana and Nina met at UC San Diego through her membership in Kappa Alpha Theta. While the two of them were not officially in the same sorority family, they became family regardless. Nina and Ilana realized quickly that being raised in immigrant families led them to have very similar values and upbringings, leading to a shared outlook on many aspects of life. They also found that they shared a love for all things counter-culture, controversial and bold. Nina has always respected Ilana's ability to transcend stereotypes by being a straight A student who still attended punk-rock shows. Ilana went on to become a neurologist and mother of an adorable little girl in San Francisco, and Nina is so fortunate to have her just an hour away.

Jess Rimawi

Jess and Nina met at UC San Diego through mutual friends and it was love at first sight. Jess' quirky and spontaneous personality made her instantly charming and a great companion for fun times and adventures. After college, Jess went on to become an accomplished entrepreneur in Los Angeles and later the mother of two beautiful boys and the two have remained close friends. As they both matured and grew, Nina came to appreciate so many other sides of Jess. Nina admires the immensity of depth and character of Jess' personality. Jess is one of the most articulate, thoughtful, principled and discerning people that Nina has ever met.

Megan Piazza

Megan and Nina met in the fourth grade in Sacramento and immediately became best friends. Over the next several years the girls developed a shared love for putting on puppet shows, alternative music, and JNCO jeans. Megan and Nina ended up attending different high schools and universities and spent long stretches of time without seeing each other, but whenever they did they picked up right where they left off. Megan recently moved back to Sacramento where she is a fantastic mother to two girls who Nina adores! We love Megan's sense of humor, social awareness, and relationship advice.
