Is this an all-day event?
Answer
No, this is not an all-day event. Sikh weddings are traditionally held in the morning so the ceremony event will end around 12:30. You will then have the afternoon to relax and do whatever you'd like. The social hour for the reception does not begin until 6:30pm.

What is a barat?
Answer
The barat (or baraat) is the groom's wedding procession. In a Sikh wedding, it is customary for the groom to be led to the wedding venue on a horse accompanied by his family and friends who dance to a "dholi" or traditional Punjabi drummer.

What is a milni?
Answer
The Hindi word ‘Milan’ is derived from a Sanskrit expression meaning “a coming together”, giving the Milni Ceremony its definition as a unification of the two families. In a Sikh marriage, a prayer ceremony is performed by the person in charge of looking after the Sikh scriptures, followed by formal introductions of the bride and groom's families by exchanging garlands.

I want to wear Indian attire, what do I do?
Answer
There are Indian clothing boutiques in most major cities. Look for options on Yelp that have the most reviews. Amazon is a more affordable choice, just be sure to choose items with positive reviews. Women's search term for the wedding and reception: “Salwar Kameez” and for the reception only: “Lehenga” and “Indian Gown.” Men’s search terms for both events: "Kurta Pyjama” and "Sherwani."

I don't want to wear Indian attire, what do I do?
Answer
If you are attending the wedding ceremony and do not want to wear Indian attire, do not fret, you will be able to meet the requirements easily with American clothes. Men can wear a suit or dress pants and a dress shirt, head covers will be provided. Women can wear a pantsuit or leggings with a long tunic, paired with a scarf to cover their head. For the reception American wedding attire is appropriate.
