Charleston, the South Carolina port city founded in 1670, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pastel antebellum houses. Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island and Shem Creek are all within close driving distance of the city. Charleston has heart, charm, shopping, busy markets, world class restaurants, art, history, and more!
Explore the beautiful beach and connecting small beach town of Isle of Palms! The first time we visited SC was to explore IOP, and it’s our favorite place yet! Sun-splashed and self-contained, Isle of Palms has everything vacationers need for a fun, well-rounded visit, including miles of beaches, championship golf, and ocean swimming. While it’s just 12 miles from Charleston, Isle of Palms has its own small city eco-system with no need to venture too far once you’re here.
Shem Creek is a casual, low-key, Lowcountry paradise where you can experience everything from paddle boarding to dolphin sightings.
Stroll miles of garden trails, paddle cypress swamp, relax in a greenhouse with butterflies & flowers, discover native & exotic reptile exhibits & the freshwater aquarium. Also where a scene from The Notebook was filmed!!
Boone Hall Plantation was founded in 1681 when Englishman Major John Boone came to Charleston and established a lucrative plantation and gracious home on the banks of Wampacheone Creek. The family and descendants of Major Boone were influential in the history of South Carolina, the colonies and the nation. In 1743, the son of Major John Boone planted live oak trees, arranging them in two evenly spaced rows. This spectacular approach to his home symbolizes southern heritage and will take root in your memory for many years to come. It would take two centuries for the massive, moss-draped branches to meet overhead, forming today’s natural corridor and a scene that NBC Daytime television says is “a must see stop on any trip to Charleston, S.C.” Boone Hall has also been recognized as the #1 Plantation in the Charleston Area by USA TODAY 10BEST. Also fun little fact: Come visit Boone Hall to see where movies like The Notebook and Forest Gump were filmed!
Accessed by boat, this fort with ruins, gun emplacements & a museum saw the Civil War’s first shots.
