The story began at Vanderbilt University Medical Center during a busy weekend of work. Nikita was completing a long procedure and Marissa was his "suture assistant.” It was during that encounter that a they felt a spark between them. As they returned to the nurses station, they exchanged phone numbers. A week later they went on their first date to Edley’s BBQ. From that day on, they spent time going to concerts, hanging out with friends and trying new restaurants. Later that summer, during a trip to Asheville, NC, filled with hiking, exploring the area and getting to know each other, they developed a strong connection. Their shared interest in travel, afforded them many adventures already. One of their favorite trips was a trip to Cuba.

In April 2022, the couple took a trip to Portugal for spring vacation. Marissa planned a day trip to the romantic city of Sintra. Little did she know, Nikita had special plans in mind for that day. They went to a beautiful restaurant and site seeing around the city. Later that afternoon, the final stop was the Peña Palace. After touring the palace and enjoying the spectacular views, Nikita, inquired if a couple could take a photo of them. While Marissa was getting ready for the photo, Nikita was preparing to propose. She looked to him and he was down on one knee. Marissa was surprised and overcome with tears of joy as he asked her to marry him. She absolutely said “YES!”
