That’s a great question and we don’t have an answer we can agree on for you. Our story obviously starts in a small mountain town next to the best and largest alpine lake around. (Somewhat want to know if Dave still agrees with this or if he has a new favorite from one of his many adventures) Once upon a ski season, Nik was working in Northstar with Carly Jurach, who happened to pull her name out of the Secret Santa hat. Knowing nothing about Nik, Carly invited her to go see a band called Trampled by Turtles. Nik said yes primarily because Trampled by Turtles has to be one of the weirdest, greatest band names around (seriously name one better!) and because she wanted a new friend. This concert was amazing. If you have not already, we highly recommend catching a TBT show. Now you might be asking yourselves “hmmm this seems like it’s Nik and Carly’s origin story” and according to Nik you would be right. However, like Nik everyone in Tahoe seems to also think that Trampled by Turtles is a fantastic band name, so the show was full of Tahoe kids, including Dave! He would see 2 Trampled shows that week because he is a definitely a stage 5 groupie. At the beginning of the relationship Nik and Dave agreed that they didn’t meet that night, but after some revisionist history Dave has changed his mind and decided they did in fact meet that night. He uses this a sentimental reason we have to see Trampled any time they are within 100 miles. We will let you decide if we actually met that night or if Dave is using it as an excuse to see his favorite band. The End! To be fair, this is a much better origin story than we met at some point after Trampled but before the Black and White Ball. Neither one of us can pin point a different time we met. So we are going to go with it. Dave wins the origin story battle after 10 years. Also, if you are interested in Trampled by Turtles because you like them or because you, like Nik will see a band for name alone, they will be playing in Bend Oregon on Aug 9th, 2024.
