Wedding Party

Madison Pape

Maid of Honor

Maddie Pape… Need we say more? Madison Elisabeth Pape is the sister of the bride. Madison’s biggest contributions to Nicole’s life are that she has always been there as someone to call, has always helped Nicole in times of need, and, above all else, has acted as a counterweight to Nicole’s introverted nature and kept her from becoming a total ~lame o~. Maddie may not know it, but Nicole loves and adores her sister more than she may admit, and even looks up to her sometimes (sometimes). When you raise your glass at the reception, raise it for Maddie too- she put in a lot of work to get both of us to where we are today!

Haley Bauman

Bridesmaid

Halebop's comment has nothing on this Halebop... Haley and Nicole were born four months apart, nearly to the day, except add five days to four months and that's how much older (and more mature?) Nicole is than Haley. The girls grew up together, spending their summers at the cabin Up North, birthdays and New Years' at each others' houses across the state, and countless moments either avoiding their little sisters or the boys that were always chasing Haley around... It seems unlikely that anyone would have guessed at that time Nicole would be the first bride of the two. Through all their years together, Nicole can't recall a single time that she and Haley ever had a fight, and is thankful that their friendship has endured, though they have spent the last several years hundreds of miles apart. When you raise your glass at the reception, raise your glass for Haley and for lifelong friendships like the one Nicole and Haley have shared!

Jen Hauser

Bridesmaid

Ope! Another Midwest Hokie... Jen Hauser was one of Nicole's recruits during her freshman year on the Virginia Tech swim team. Jen is originally from Chicago, and Nicole immediately knew she would be friends with this girl because of her classic Midwest no-bs attitude. Much to Nicole's excitement, Jen committed to VT the day after the two first met. Fast forward a year or two though, and Nicole retired from swimming. The following year, Jen followed suit (no pun intended). Upon retirement, the pair became two peas in a pod. They spent a great deal of time outside of class together going on hikes, enjoying a glass of arrow creek merlot to the tune of the Bachelor/Bachelorette, and cooking with the European swimmers that lived across the street from Jen. By graduation, Jen had become like a second little sister, telling Nicole exactly what she thought, even if wasn't the same as what Nicole thought. And, like Maddie, Jen acted as a countermeasure to some of Nicole's habits which will not be discussed here... When you raise your glass at the reception, raise your glass for Jen, and for the family members that we choose!

Julia Bruneau

Bridesmaid

European + Midwest Gals = Recipe for a Good Time Julia Bruneau is a Finnish American, who grew up near Helsinki. Nicole and Julia were on the swim team together at Virginia Tech. Although the girls got along from the start, their friendship truly blossomed after Nicole retired from swimming and started hanging out with Jen Hauser more (i.e., cooking with the European swimmers across the street). The pair bonded through their laid back demeanors, over coffee and tea during the week, game nights on the weekends, and the occasional visit to Square 5 pub in Downtown Blacksburg (which is notorious for hosting the older, less party-oriented crowd in town). When Julia graduated, Nicole was thrilled to find out that she was considering job opportunities in North Carolina, and ended up moving a short drive away from Nicole and Gummi! They spent the past 4th of July together in Charlotte with Julia's boyfriend, Alex. Nicole and Gummi feel so lucky to have Julia and Alex nearby, because they are two people that have become part of the couple's away-from-home family. When you raise your glass at the reception, raise you glass for Julia, and for the family members that that we choose!

Adrianna Waack

Bridesmaid

A-Dub Waacky Waack... Where to Begin? When Nicole graduated from 8th grade, she was daunted by the prospect of going to a different high school than the rest of her classmates, but was excited to start high school swim, a challenge that had been at the forefront of her mind for a long time at that point. Sometime during the first week of high school swim practice, Alexa Graf, one of Nicole's close friends from summer swim, came to pick Nicole up, but with two strangers in the car. They introduced themselves as Adrienne and Adrianna. These two were the first fast friends that Nicole made at Adams High School, and they would remain for a long time. Throughout their high school career, Nicole had numerous classes with Adrianna, usually math classes, Nicole's least favorite subject. Adrianna pushed Nicole to do better than a C+ in pre calc and whatever the senior year advanced math class was, though her efforts were in vain second semester of senior year (oops). On the swim team, Nicole leaned on Adrianna as a leader and a friend, and as someone who somehow constantly had an amazing attitude and LOVED the sport of swimming probably more than anything else in the whole entire world except her cats. When you raise your glass at the reception, raise your glass for Adrianna, for those people you can always lean on to put a positive spin on the world, and for people who love cats! (the second part is optional)

Sveinborg Danielsdottir

Bridesmaid

Sveinborg is the Sister of the Groom. Nicole remembers meeting Sveinborg the first time she visited Iceland. Then, Sveinborg made Nicole feel welcome by finding fun things to do with the couple while they were in town and by making conversation in English or translating for Nicole whenever someone said something funny. When you raise your glass at the reception, raise it for Sveinborg, and for sisters like her with little brothers!
