The best airport to fly into is Cancun International Airport. We recommend contacting the hotel regarding transportation to and from the hotels to book both taxis and shared vans in advance. If you are coming from Cancun Airport by taxi, the official airport taxis may cost around $120 USD. Important Note for taxi usage throughout your stay: DO NOT TAKE TAXIS FROM THE STREET.

Travel Note
o The Maya are the single largest indigenous group on the entire North American continent. Although predominantly located in Yucatán state, members of these group have also settled in other Mexican states, such as Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco, and Chiapas. Outside Mexico the Maya can be found in Guatemala, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. o Their total population is estimated about 6 million with 1.2 million living on the Yucatán peninsula. Linguists have associated 32 distinct indigenous languages among the Maya; most of the Maya in this area speak Yucatec Maya, and might be able to use Spanish only as a second language. o The Maya are rightfully, proud of their history, which dates back to a period immediately following the rise of the Olmec culture. The Maya rose to power and settled in Yucatán peninsula, where they developed several city states, including that of Chichen-Itza. o The Spanish colonized the Yucatán around the 1500s and they achieved victory by the middle of the century, but long before the Spanish arrived the once powerful Mayans civilization, was already in decline and no one really knows why. There are many archaeologists investigating and studying the ruins to find the answer…. perhaps one of you will. o The Mayans continue to blend the elements of their ancient worship practice and rituals (of course not the the life sacrifices) with more contemporary religious practices. Among the Maya population in this peninsula the main passion to preserve its long history can be seen in the handy crafts that they create with the same skill and artistry as their ancestors. We recommend any excursion that allows you to experience this fascinating, history and culture.
