Kathia and Nico met on a sunny afternoon in Berkeley. Kathia was reluctant to go to UC Berkeley’s beginning of the school year extravaganza on campus known as ‘Caltopia’. Lucky for Nico she was dragged out of her room by her friend and roommate Addy. Nico on the other hand was tabling at Caltopia for the school club baseball team. Upon approaching the baseball table Nico was struck by Kathia’s insane beauty. Kathia started the conversation by asking if the team was co-ed. Nico immediately answered in the affirmative and coolly asked for her to put her name and phone number down on a contact list. She fell for this charming request. Nico then messaged her culminating in Kathia attending a BBQ at Nico’s apartment. Nico won Kathia over in the ensuing months of baking pies, cookies and pies.

While visiting Kathia's family and vacationing in Nicaragua, Nico decided that the top of the bell tower at the beautiful Iglesia La Merced was the perfect place to propose. The stunning views of volcano Mombacho, Lake Cocibolca, and the city of Granada would be a perfect backdrop for a proposal. Nico made sure that the employees at the church only allowed the two of them to the top for an intimate and personal moment. In the late morning Nico and Kathia walked by La Merced and Nico insisted they go to the top of the bell tower. Kathia resisted and said, "I've already been to the top, and I don't need to go again." After more insistence by Nico, Kathia replied, "I am not going to the top of the church again, I need to finish my shopping at the Masaya market." Defeated, Nico knew he had to improvise. He decided to buy a beautiful bouquet of tropical flowers, and propose at another location. After purchasing the bouquet he returned and met Kathia at the hotel, a colonial era mansion. He decided to walk to the marble staircase where he got down on one knee, pouring out his heart to Kathia. After "popping the question" Kathia waiting for what seemed like a lifetime to Nico, and finally said "Yes."
