The venue that will host our wedding was built as Blodgett’s Hotel in 1795. In 1810, it became the General Post Office and was one of the few public buildings to survive the War of 1812. Because of that war, which destroyed the Capitol building, the 13th session of Congress was convened there. The building’s final form was completed in 1866 and designed by architect Robert Mills, who also designed the famous Washington Monument. It has since then been the home of various government offices and now houses the Kimpton Hotel Monaco.
A must visit while in DC! Walking the Mall you'll be able to visit the Capitol, the White House, the Washington Monument (Andrea's favorite), the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial, and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial (Nick's favorite), among others.
Andrea's favorite modern art museum in the city. Free to visit!
Nick's favorite modern art museum in the city. Free to visit, but you may need to reserve a ticket for some exhibits.
Across the street from the wedding hotel and also free to visit. Explore the presidential portraits (we love how funky Obama's is) and enjoy a coffee in the atrium.
Feel like you've escaped the city and entered a rainforest at the Botanic Garden.
Another favorite museum! The museum is free but reservations are required.
The restaurant where we had our first date sadly closed, but this spot where we went on our third is another favorite! Walking distance from the wedding hotel.
Our go-to pizza spot! Walking distance from the wedding hotel.
Nick's favorite fast-casual spot. Walking distance from the wedding hotel.
An international food hall right in our backyard (literally, our apartment is right next door). Great spot for trying out new cuisines and shopping small businesses. Another Latin food hall, La Cosecha, is also close by. 3 metro stops away from the wedding hotel.
A great neighborhood for walking by the water if the weather is nice.
