How it All Started

It all started in December 2021, when I traveled to Ghana for the very first time to visit my cousin. I was beyond excited and also completely unaware that the trip would change my life forever. After an 18-hour journey across continents, I landed in Accra feeling... not cute. My hair was a mess, my breath was questionable (international travel is not for the faint of heart), and worst of all, my luggage was missing! And yet, my cousin still thought it was a great idea to drive me around town and then to dinner with his friends. Mind you, all of this while I am in my travel clothes, guys! Charles was there to witness it all that day, from me being frantic at the airport to being uncomfortable at the dinner table. He didn't speak a word, just observed. He seemed polite but quiet, so he actually went unnoticed until he decided to ditch us at the dinner table to go hang out with his sister at the bar! I remember thinking, well, guess I’m not important. Little did I know, he had already set his eyes on me that very night. Over the next two weeks in Ghana, something unexpected happened: the stars aligned. Between cousin catch-ups, group outings, and shared laughs, Charles and I began to really see each other. What started off quietly and unassumingly grew into a connection that neither of us could deny. The connection grew and by the time I boarded my flight back to the U.S., it was clear: he was mine, and I was his. Since then, we’ve navigated a long-distance relationship—but through the distance, the time zones, and the Snapchat calls that turn into hours-long heart-to-hearts, our bond has only grown stronger. He’s my favorite hello, my hardest goodbye, and everything in between. Now, we're counting down to forever, and we’re so incredibly grateful to everyone who’s joining us to celebrate our love in beautiful Ghana. Your presence means the world to us.
