Question

Are there any travel requirements I should be aware of?

Answer

Yes! You'll need two things to ENTER Mexico: A valid passport [it must be valid past the date of your scheduled departure] & A tourist card [aka FMM or Forma Migratoria Múltiple] - The cost of this form is included in your air fare. - A flight attendant will pass a paper copy of the FMM out to all passengers during your flight to Mexico and ask that you fill it out prior to landing. If you'd like to know what information is asked of you on this form or see an example, please click on the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/27zc9s8u6wbwoirop84t9/FMM-Sample.jpg?rlkey=rh5pyd8n7weax1naf55qprjku&st=pzstw6gl&dl=0 - Once you've landed and are going through immigration, you'll need to present this form to the immigration agent. They will ask for your passport + this form. You will then get your passport stamped and they will hand you the bottom portion of your FMM form. *HOLD ONTO THIS BOTTOM PORTION* --- Nick and Vanessa always put this piece of paper in their passport book for safe keeping. To EXIT Mexico, you'll need: A valid passport & The bottom portion of your paper FMM form. - Once you arrive at the airport for your departure flight, you'll need to turn in your FMM card at immigration prior to going through security. If you're not sure where this is, ask airport personnel and they will tell you where to go.

Question

Do I need to speak Spanish?

Answer

The short answer is no! Since San Miguel de Allende is a popular city for English-speaking tourists, many hotels, restaurants, and businesses in the historic center have English-speaking staff. That said, knowing some basic Spanish phrases can come in handy, especially when interacting with taxi drivers, street vendors, etc. Locals really appreciate when tourists make an effort to speak their native language (even if it's a simple, 'hola' and 'gracias').

Question

Is San Miguel de Allende a safe city?

Answer

Compared to larger, urban areas, San Miguel is considered to be one of the safest cities in Mexico. It has a strong expat community, a thriving tourism industry, and a local government that prioritizes safety. Having said that, we encourage guests to remain aware of their surroundings and take standard precautions, as you would on any trip abroad. Vanessa and Nick have visited the city together a few times now and are happy to answer any questions guests may have regarding their past experiences.

Question

Is there a dress code?

Answer

We'd love to have our friends and family get dressed up with us for our big day! Dress code is black tie optional. We encourage guests to dress in bright colors and/or fun prints! We've put together a Pinterest board with outfit inspiration in case you need ideas on what to wear: https://pin.it/6V7vB0EjH

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

While we love your little ones, all wedding events will be adults only (18+). If you're interested in bringing your children to San Miguel, we are happy to connect you with local childcare options.

Question

Can I bring a guest or date?

Answer

We will only be able to accommodate guests formally listed on your invitation. If you've received a plus one, your invitation will specifically indicate, "Your Name & Guest". We appreciate your understanding!

Question

Can I drink tap water?

Answer

As with other destinations in Mexico, avoid tap water UNLESS it has been filtered. Water served at most restaurants are typically purified, but we would encourage our guests to always order bottled water throughout their stay! (ask Nick about his experience with this lol) Bottled water is widely available and short term visitors are advised to use it to brush their teeth as well.

Question

Will my phone work in Mexico?

Answer

Most major U.S. carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) offer international roaming in Mexico. However, prior to arrival, we would recommend that you check with your provider to see if your plan includes free calls, texts, and data in MX. Keep in mind that all hotels in the area have complimentary wifi for guests, so even if your plan does not include free calls or texts in Mexico, you'll still be able to use your phone in these ways while at your hotel.

Question

Do I need to bring adapters for my chargers?

Answer

Nope! Mexico uses the same electrical outlets and voltage as the U.S. So, your chargers and devices will work without an adapter! This includes hair tools as well :).

Question

Do I need Mexican pesos?

Answer

While you might be able to get away with only using USD or a credit card, we love using pesos for street vendors, taxis, and shopping. There are various ATM machines around the city, so you can take pesos out as needed throughout your stay.

Question

How do I get around once I arrive in San Miguel?

Answer

The whole city is fairly small and is extremely walkable! Most things in the city are a 5-10 minute walk away. At any point, you can orient yourself to the central square by looking for the tall Cathedral or "Parroquia". Be sure to bring comfortable shoes as the streets are made of cobblestone! Taxis and Ubers are plentiful. You can go anywhere around the city for under $10 USD. If you decide to use a taxi, negotiate the price upfront. You can expect to pay around 100 pesos during the day, and upwards of 150 pesos at night.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

YOU SHOULD PACK FOR SUNNY DAYS AHEAD! Warm, sunny days with very low humidity. Some Average May Stats: - Daily highs around 84°F, rarely falling below 77°F or exceeding 91°F. - Daily lows (almost exclusively at night) are 57°F, rarely falling below 50°F or exceeding 61°F. - The altitude is -6,400 feet, which means you should plan to wear hats/sunscreen during the day, and layers at night.

For all the days along the way
