I finally wore her down

We started talking on an online dating website for a few weeks and finally met in person on December 20, 2012, just a couple days before the Mayan Apocalypse. Shannon suggested they meet at Ashley's in Westland, which obviously fits due to her love of beer and bars (she really just wanted a side of macaroni and cheese). Then Nick nearly spilled his beer on her, which has happened on a semi-regular basis since- hopefully that's one tradition that won't happen at the wedding due to a certain white dress! Despite that, they talked for hours and really hit it off. Nick was too much of a chicken to go in for the first kiss, though....

On their second date, they went to go watch college hockey at the Joe in downtown Detroit. There were two games, and after the first one, Nick asked if she wanted to stay for the second one, and Shannon replied, "Why wouldn't we?" and Nick was smitten. During the second game, Nick finally got up the courage and they shared their first kiss.

On their 4 year anniversary, Nick took Shannon downtown to celebrate. He booked a room at the MGM hotel, made reservations at Wolfgang Puck, the works. But first, they went down to Campus Martius to go ice skating in front of the Christmas Tree (something they always wanted to do together). And right in front of the tree, he got down on one knee (on ice skates!), and he handed her a Taco Bell Packet that said "Will You Marry Me?". Years before, he had found it and joked that he would propose with that, and her response was "You better not!" (but she kept it anyways). As soon as she saw that she knew what was happening. And then he said the magic words, and through tears, Shannon said yes!
