we’re getting married!

We met on an online dating service, ChristianMingle. Nick first noticed a beautiful woman who looked like someone who was a ton of fun, kind and personable; he was able to see all of that just from just her profile picture. Then he read everything about her and realized, she loved God, her family, and life in general and she seems like a TON of fun! So he “liked” her profile. Nikki got the notification that he had liked her profile and thought…. whoa…. he’s cute and this sounds like a guy who honestly has a relationship with God and loves his family and loves life…. she was like if this is true, this sounds like everything i’ve been looking for sooooo what the heck, i’ll say hi! So she did, she sent the first message saying “hey, what’s up?” Nick happened to be in Colorado on vacation with his family and that day his dad and him had hiked one of the 14,000 foot mountains out there. So, he told her about that and she was hooked. That was July 3rd 2021; they continued talking for the next month, talking about everything in life and getting closer and finally on August 1st they met for the first time. As they walked towards each other they each said hi and they both walked right up to each other and immediately gave each other a hug, mid-hug Nick said “Hi, I’m Nick” and Nikki said “I’m Nikki, nice to meet you” they laughed together and had the best first date anyone has ever had!!!

It was January 8th, we were in Unionville Missouri with a group of Nick’s friends at a lakehouse. We went there to do our own little polar plunge into the lake and hangout for the weekend. Saturday we all took the plunge into the freezing cold water and later that night we all decided to go for a walk. After walking for about 20 minutes Nick’s friends decided that they wanted to go back to the lakehouse to warm up. While they started walking back Nick asked Nikki if she wanted to keep walking, she said that she would like to keep walking but that everyone else was going back so would he want to go back with all of them? Nick said that he was happy to keep walking with her. So they kept walking and eventually came to a small clearing that opened onto the lake that was all frozen over. After enjoying the view and talking Nick decided he wanted to go out onto the ice, it freaked Nikki out a little bit and so she said “if you die I’m going to kill you” haha. The ice held up under his weight so eventually she joined him out on the ice with him and they slid around and played on the ice for a little while……

Now, a little background story to give this next part some context. Nick and Nikki had been talking for a month, and they were on their second date(the second time they had ever seen each other in person) and they were talking about whether they should start “dating” officially. After some conversation Nick said “I just can’t think of a reason that we shouldn’t date” and Nikki (smiling from ear to ear) agreed, so they officially became boyfriend/girlfriend right then, August 8th 2021. So back to the frozen lake, after sliding and playing on the ice for a little while Nick and Nikki embraced and Nick looked Nikki in the eyes and said to her “babe, i just can’t think of a reason that we should not get married.” Then getting down on one knee he asked “will you take the plunge with me?” And he opened up the box to reveal a diamond engagement ring. Before he could even get all of this completely out of his mouth, Nikki was tackling him shouting “yes, yes, yes.” Getting up she finally let him put the ring on her finger. So it was at around 8:00 pm on Saturday January 8th 2022 Nick and Nikki were engaged to be married.
