Driskill Hotel
Open since 1886, the Driskill is Austin's oldest operating hotel and is gorgeous on the inside and outside. It's where LBJ took Lady Bird on their first date, and even more romantic: it was built with a separate ladies' entrance so the women could enter the hotel without having to walk past the "rough" cattlemen and their lewd talk. Take a walk inside, grab a drink at the bar, or high tea which is offered every afternoon.
Franklin Barbecue
Texas Monthly says this place serves "The best barbecue in the known universe," and we agree. Grab some for lunch but be warned - you'll need to show up early and wait your turn in line. It's part of the experience!
Texas State Capitol
The quintessential Austin pic -- grab a bestie or your sweetie, get your phone ready, and when the light is red, run out to the middle of Congress Avenue and find some stranger to take your photo. Strange? Maybe, but the photos are great! Oh yeah - the capitol's pretty cool itself too.
