The story of us

By happy life circumstances, I was back in KC for my figuring life out and pie shop days and Nick the world traveler, was in Kansas (all thanks to his brothers). However, how we met depends on who is telling the story. The right side: At a white elephant Christmas party, I saw this cute boy standing at the hot chocolate table, so naturally I made my way over to talk to him. The “supposed truth”: First of all, we met at a Sunday church service way before that. Secondly, I talked to her first! Continuing from either of those starts, Nick and I were now in the same little friend group in KC. Our friendship grew through doing sporty things, watching K-dramas and of course, me, winning at lots of board games. Camping with our pals in Colorado, Nick surprised me with gluten free cinnamon rolls around the camp fire. In that moment, my heart gave a flutter and Nick became the man who listens to those off-handed comments and dreams. That first date of Thai food was the mark of something unexpectedly lovely. Our dating life started with me long distance in Texas. In that time Nick continued to show his love and care (sent me flowers on my first day). We adapted to Skype board games, Netflix shows and cooking the same meals at night. After the internship, I got a job at that Texas hospital (praise). I take a moment to mention how Nick so rudely sang “All my exes live in Texas”, lucky for him I found it just witty enough. Nick and I decided together to take on a new state and move to Texas. Due to the pandemic we made our journey at the start of lockdown. We learned a lot about supporting each other, having important discussions about what was occurring in our world and how to still find joy amongst it all. In Texas, as we explored the new city, we began building a community of nerdy wonderful friends, got to cook meals together, and faced the obligatory moving debacles. Through doing life together it became clear, that forever is what we wanted it to be.
