Jackson is the actual city of Jackson, WY, while Jackson Hole encompasses the city of Jackson, as well as the small towns right around the city (ex: Moran, Wilson, Kelly)
Wyoming is anything but predictable for weather! Late afternoon showers are very common, but tend to move through quickly. It can get into the 30s at night- so come prepared for any type of weather! Even if it is in the 80s in the day, the temperatures will drop at night.
**If you are going to stay inside Yellowstone National Park- BOOK LODGING EARLY!*** If you have the time: A day to see Grand Prismatic Springs at Midway Basin Geyser, Old Faithful and the surrounding boardwalk paths and Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. Stop by the Canyon Visitor Center if you have time. Lodging: Either Old Faithful Lodge or Lake Hotel *Make sure to get huckleberry ice cream at Old Faithful :) A day to explore Mammoth Hot Springs and the Boiling River Lodging: the cabins by Mammoth Hot Springs Take a day to explore Cody, WY (by the East gate of Yellowstone)
For any hike in Jackson, please make sure you have bear spray and know how to use it. Be sure you are adjusted to the elevation and have plenty of water! Phelps Lake: For a more leisurely hike to the lake, start at the Rockefeller Visitor Center or for a more difficult hike (beautiful view from top) start at Death Canyon Trailhead. Bradley and Taggart Lake: A leisurely hike ~2-3 mi each way. Hidden Falls: You either start at Jenny Lake and hike around the lake or take the ferry across. A Jackson must do! Delta Lake: A difficult hike. ~8mi roundtrip. This is an unmarked trail in GTNP, but it is well traveled. A beautiful mountain lake. Surprise/Amphitheater Lake: A difficult hike ~10mi round trip. 2 mountain lakes close to each other and beautiful views.
We suggest renting a paddle board from Rendezvous River Sports and going out to String Lake or book a white water rafting trip from any of the local companies (they are all great!)
Snow King Resort has lots of options for kids: miniature golf, alpine slide, cowboy coaster! There are lots of great playgrounds in Jackson: Mike Yokel; Phil Baux, Miller Park to name a few Head up to String Lake and let them play in the lake.
