At Marietta College, Nick played football and Jayla was an Athletic Training student. Nick tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus during a game and Jayla's professor asked if any freshman wanted to feel his knee shift. To show the teacher her willingness to learn (suck up), Jayla quickly said, "I do!" When she reached for his knee, Nick jumped and said, "OUCH!" trying to scare her. Jayla stayed cool and calm (she had people to impress) but after that she couldn't stop thinking about that redhead on campus. They later met up at Jimbo's (RIP) and the rest is history.
I first saw Jayla on the sideline at football practice freshman year. She was a newbie in training carrying waters and being followed by every boy on the team. Of course I thought she was smokin hot and way out of my league so I didn’t pursue... never really even crossed my mind...Until fate arranged the crossing of our paths a few weeks later. Week two of the season I had a bad injury, but out of it started the best thing that ever happened to me. Jayla Autumn. Throughout my lengthy recovery she nursed me back to health. She was able to get the shy quite red head to open up and have some fun. The next four years were spent chasing each other across Marietta always ending up with each other in the end. Jayla is someone that always seems to draw the lime light no matter where she is. Her beauty helps, but the main reason is because she is one of the hardest working people I know. She goes above and beyond at work and at home. Always staying late to make sure every athlete is treated, that everything is cleaned and organized, and spending hours making sure the house is perfectly decorated. She loves our doodle Elsie and gives her the upmost affection. Our future children will be lucky to have a mom like her. She loves the fall, but hates the cold. Loves spending time with her family and friends. She thinks gift cards are bad gifts because there’s no thought in it. You can bet a million dollars she’ll take forever to get ready and after 6 different outfits she’ll go with the first one she tried on. Jayla is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She is brave and loving. She is the spark in my boring life and I am blessed to be marrying my best friend, the girl that’s way out of my league.
I was scared of Nick when I first met him. He was so kind, gentle, patient, and forgiving...you know, husband material. At eighteen, I wanted nothing to do with that. He admits that he was scared of me too. I was wild and had a bad case of RBF. No matter much we pushed each other away, the universe knew exactly what we needed. Nick is an engineer and he’s amazing at his job. I usually have no clue what he's talking about when he tells me about his day, but it's cute that he tries to teach me so much about it all. He’s also the guy you'll see sitting on the floor at a party, giving belly rubs to someone’s dog. Elsie would choose chasing softballs in the backyard with him over anything else. Nick finds peace in sitting in a tree stand, listening to George Strait or Johnny Cash, and working on his truck. If you buy him something nice, he will display it on a shelf like a trophy and never use it. He takes care of his things, his loved ones, and makes sure everyone is safe. He loves breakfast foods, cold weather, and sleeping in on Sunday’s. He pours so much love into writing me cards and I always cry when I read them. He is my favorite person. He is weird and goofy, especially around me. He gets hit on every time he gets his hair cut. Women of all ages are drawn to his red hair and soft voice. I’m so lucky to call him mine. Nick is the most noble and loyal man, and he’s also a phenomenal friend. My future husband inspires me on a regular basis. I am in love with his old, romantic soul. I lucked out getting to do life with him and I can’t wait to be his wife.
