The initial connection, before even knowing what a beautiful relationship it would blossom into, began in a university laboratory. Melanie always likes to say she was the one who “caught” Nick. She posted anonymously on a school-wide confession board: “to the guy in the checkered blue shirt at the festival last night, I just wanna say I think you are really cute.” As to why Nick decided to dress like a picnic blanket that night, God only knows, but he is ultimately thankful for doing so. It led him to have a chance encounter with the most affectionate, comforting and intelligent person he had ever met. Melanie thought he might have been annoyed. Why would she think that she needed to apologize? After lab that day, when she realized the guy that she had confessed to being her crush was the teaching assistant in her chemistry lab, she was looking to clear the air. But for some reason, something in her told her to just go for it - she approached him and asked him out – “my friend and I are going to a play at 5:30, would you be interested in coming?”- Unfortunately, Nick had previous arrangements; he almost blew it! However, he made sure to get her number and invite her to church the following Sunday- it was a Spanish service, and he needed help (his Spanish was not as good as it is now). And so, their first date at Iglesia Cosecha turned into movie dates, lunches and meet-cutes, and it wasn’t but a month until they were going steady. Nick fit right in with Melanie’s family, and Melanie with Nick’s. Sharing many interests in common, they find it hard to stay away from each other. Notably, they love baking and cooking together. They also enjoy crafts, movies, science and art. Melanie is an aspiring clinical scientist, Nick also works in a laboratory setting. They are both naturally curious and love exploring new environments. Their bond has never been stronger as they approach the day of their wedding.
