Our Story

Who knew love would start over a slice of pineapple pizza (for the record, Nick will deny he ever ate it). So, you may be asking how did this all start? Well, they organically met in person and bonded over their love of gluten-free everything, and saving the eurthhhh. Just kidding, it’s the 21st century people. Janet and Nick met on the dating app Hinge. Nick would like to think Janet was so intrigued by Nick’s profile that she decided to swipe right, but it so happens that Janet’s coworker/friend, Kim was actually the one in charge of her account (shout out to you savage Kim). Side note, Janet’s convinced that if she put her birth name, Man Hung, on her account that Nick wouldn’t have swiped right on her. After messaging for a few days about Nick’s disdain of pineapple pizza and Janet’s love for it, they met up at a pizza place in San Francisco where they shared a few slices of pizza (unfortunately pineapple was one of them, sorry Nick’s Italian ancestors) and talked until the restaurant closed. The night ended up going so well that Janet shut Nick down in his attempt to offer her a ride home, trying to convince him that the Tenderloin, where she lived at the time (don’t let her convince you it was Lower Pacific Heights), was close to South of Market. Begrudgingly, Janet obliged to a second date with Nick. This date consisted of a brisk jog to Fort Point in which Nick would not stop talking the whole time and what seemed like a brisk jog to him resulted in a Usain Bolt like sprint for her. Janet contends to this day that at one point she almost put her AirPods on so she could focus on the run and not listen to him. Anyways let’s get to the good stuff. Over the course of a couple of months, Nick and Janet continued to go on dates and continued to be amazed by how much they had in common and how alike they were. They each were surprised that another human being could genuinely put up with their bullshit.

Continued...

The relationship was cemented when Nick returned from a work trip in Houston and got down on one knee (hold your horses this is not the “real” proposal yet) and officially asked Janet to be his girlfriend with a ring pop. Over the next couple of years, besides COVID, a lot happened in their lives and relationship. Nick purchased a home in the East Bay, they moved in together, Janet became the breadwinner with a new job as a Finance Manager, and they adopted Luna, a pig that some may mistake as a dog. Through all this change their love and relationship continued to grow and strengthen and they could not picture their lives without each other. Finally, everything culminated with a proposal in Monterey in August. The day of the proposal couldn’t have been more beautiful, the thick fog with a touch of heavy drizzle and cold set up a great scene for the proposal. In the midst of this beautiful day and on a bike ride through the 17-mile drive they stopped on a quaint beach. Janet, freezing and reluctant to take off her helmet followed him towards the water wanting to turn back the whole way to the point where she took a picture of the water in hopes of appeasing Nick and returning to the bikes. With a little more convincing Janet walked in further and just when Janet was about to turn back, Nick got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Janet ripped off her helmet, blacked out a little bit, and ultimately to everyone's surprise said yes (Nick’s dad still asks her to this day if she is sure). That all brings us here, Janet and Nick are excited to share their special day with you. You all are an instrumental piece in each of their lives and they couldn’t be happier to celebrate with you. So bring your dancing shoes, appetite (I mean we are Italian and Chinese at the end of the day), and drinking ability (open bar ayyyyyyye). They hope to see you there.

For all the days along the way
