Maid of Honor
Despite early home video evidence claiming that she is "not part of my family," I have actually been related to Jenna since birth. Jenna and I share a love of Spongebob references, true crime podcasts, and reality tv. Notably, she has been the reigning champion of my Bachelor fantasy league for the past 2+ years. As my only sibling, I am thankful to have a built in Maid of Honor. It is an added bonus that she happens to have a side hustle as a wedding coordinator.
Best Man
When I was very young I couldn't say my brother's name so I called him "Aya" - a nickname my family still calls him. As soon as I was able to walk, I was following my brother around. Eventually I followed Alex to DC (moving from New Jersey - which I referred to as "dark times") where I initially spent several weeks living in Alex's walk-in closet. Alex has always been reliable for support, especially when it comes to identifying credit card bonuses. When he is not at home trying to find more yield, you can almost always find him at Le Diplomate.
Bridesmaid
Caitlin is my oldest friend and fellow nugget. From Neopets trolling to birthday PowerPoint decks to YouTube fame aspirations, I have very few childhood memories/inside jokes that don't involve her. Many of these are either too embarrassing to share publicly or will hinder Danny's future run for public office. We met in Kindergarten, grew up next door to each other, and lived together in DC before she left us to go live in sin.
Groomsman
I met Carl in Mrs. Woodman's 3rd grade class 23 years ago, where we became fast friends nerding out about video games. We proceeded to be the peanut gallery of any class that we happened to be together in, and the wise cracks have never stopped since. I was proud to be asked to be groomsman in Carl's wedding in 2016. Carl and I have still kept in touch all these years (despite distance) through a weekly online gaming session.
Bridesmaid
Melanie and I met while attending rival high schools in Woodbridge, but I think our friendship really began with Awesome Couch™ and Beach Week '09. Melanie and I also lived together in DC, where she was the only housemate who wasn't five feet tall. Eventually, the proximity to wineries lured her home to Charlottesville, and she has been trying to convince me to move there ever since.
Groomsman
When I first met Chris (AKA Gunter Heidrich), he was a middle school friend of my brother. We got to know each other very well through AIM, where we would share our love of post-punk and indie artists. Chris drove me to my first concert and we would go on to dozens more. We spent many afternoons together in my parent's basement playing Dungeons and Dragons and when I moved to DC we were able to re-unite the group.
Bridesmaid
Sophie and I met in the hallway of our freshman dorm, where a mutual friend was giving me a questionable, egg-based hair treatment in the communal kitchenette sink. We later became close friends after rooming together on our EuroCaps study abroad trip. Sometimes known as "Twins Barberolo," we love any opportunity to wear a matching or themed outfit. Pictured here is the get-up from our 10 year friendiversary celebration.
Groomsman
Callum and I met at Lafayette College, finding we shared a similar taste in music and video games. We were roommates for 3 of our 4 years there and went on a school trip to Italy and Germany together. Callum was present for all of my first drinks: playing a drinking game to "Wild Wild West" with a rum and coke, my first "legal" (in Europe) drink of hefeweizen at a Munich beer hall, and first legitimate drink of Woodchuck cider in our junior dorm room. Our palates have improved since then, and Callum can always recommend a good Gose or local brewery.
Bridesmaid
Meagan and I met our junior year through a mutual friend at the University of Mary Washington, an institution with which we share a similar love/hate relationship. After accidentally breaking her toe at President Hurley's Inaugural Ball (It's a great day to be an Eagle?) she still agreed to be my roommate for 1.5 years AND let me be a bridesmaid in her and Ben's wedding in March 2019.
Groomsman
I met Brandolon at a mutual friend's birthday party. It wasn't long after that I joined Brandolon and the members of his competitive karaoke team at Policy Restaurant and Lounge (RIP), where together we went on to star on teams such as "Chordially Yours" and "Please Clap". Brandolon is a much better singer than I am, but together we do a great rendition of "Somebody's Watching Me". It was Brandolon who started the bocce league team "Over My Dead Bocce" where Chelsea and I met!
Bridesmaid
I give Yasmine partial credit for the ubiquity of the Poof nickname and full credit for the common misunderstanding that it is "because of my hair." We originally met at UVA and then both moved to the city after grad school, where we bonded over District Trivia nights, Pioneer Woman-themed brunches, and (formerly) DC-based influencers. Yasmine was my first friend to follow my lead in moving to Columbia Heights, where we briefly lived only a few blocks apart before I ditched her to move in with Nick ;)
Groomsman
I originally met Justin at District Karaoke, but we didn't really become good friends until we started playing bocce together. There we would spend a lot of time debating philosophical and ontological questions like "Is a hotdog a sandwich?" and "Is the last season of Game of Thrones the worst thing to ever happen to humanity?". Justin and I share a love of Mario Party and Taco Bell. We are both very competitive and regularly play overly complicated board games against each other.
