In 2015, Jordan and Kayla met on Halloween on the beach in Barcelona, Spain. At this point, Jordan was a few weeks in to a 3 month solo backpacking trip and Kayla was visiting her best friend from college, Jorden Sobonya, who was living in Madrid. Jorden & Jordan knew each other from their highschool in Fresno. Once they met, they were inseperable. About a week later, Kayla changed all of her travel plans to meet Jordan in Rome, Italy where they had their first official date. 🖤

Jordan & Kayla went on a 3 week trip to Europe with a couple of friends (Jorden Sobonya & Kylee Warkentin). They started in Barcelona and went to a few places in Italy before going to Croatia. Kayla was anticipating a proposal but after the first week went by, she told herself to just stop thinking about it & enjoy the vacation. Kayla had no idea what was going on during that first week. Jordan had ordered the ring from James Allen & Fed Ex tried to deliver it 15 minutes after they left Fresno for the airport. After many phone calls, Jorden Sobonya’s mom Julie was able to pick the ring up from Fed Ex and bring it from Fresno all the way to Slovenia where she was meeting up with relatives. July 27, 2019: Kayla & Jordan took an overnight bus from Italy & got ready for the day in a bus station restroom. Neither one knew that today would be a day they would never forget. Upon arriving to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Jorden Sobonya secretly let Jordan Nielson know that she got the ring from her mom & had it in her bag. The whole day Kayla thought she was helping Kylee & Jorden find a great spot to get really good pictures. Once we found the perfect spot, Kayla asked Jorden to take a picture of them. When Kayla turned back around to face Jordan he was down one knee with the most beautiful oval ring in his hands. Kayla was absolutely shocked & even said “no, stop, your kidding,” before saying “yes!!" In that moment there were no people walking by & the whole thing was caught on video. 💖 It was the best day ever!
