On our first to NOLA trip together, Austin and I rented bikes and did a self-guided New Orleans tour. You can also opt for a guided bike tour. We recommend riding up St Charles Avenue (beautiful historic mansions) to Audubon Park and then back down Magazine Street (shops and restaurants).
My dad and I particularly loved the Garden District Walking Tour. Stops along the iconic streetcar line on St. Charles Avenue include Thomas Jefferson's old home and Sandra Bullock's current home. You'll get to see my favorite New Orleans' neighborhood. You could end your tour with a delicious brunch and 25 cent martinis at the famous Commander's Palace. This company also offers Voodoo tours, food tours, you name it.
This museum even has an airplane hangar with a B-17, which my grandfather flew in WW II.
-Frenchmen Street (edge of French Quarter): Austin and I love walking around Frenchmen Street. This street is what I envision when I think of New Orleans-- music clubs and street musicians. We particularly like Maison. - Bacchanal Fine Wine and Spirits - An eclectic bar known for its courtyard and lively music that originated as a gathering spot for residents during Katrina. - Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Bar (French Quarter): A hole-in-the-wall built between 1722 and 1732 by Nicolas Touze, Jean Lafitte's is reputed to be the oldest structure used as a bar in the United States and you feel it when you're inside.
French Quarter: St Louis Cathedral and square Antique Shopping and architecture on Royal Street (walk in direction of Esplanade Ave) Cafe du Monde for coffee and beignets Other: Magazine Street between Jackson Ave and Napoleon Ave -- cute boutiques and cafes City Park and New Orleans Museum of Art
